InfoTrends reported that interviews with more than 100 print customers demonstrated an appetite and willingness to pay premiums of 24% to 89% for special effects, over CMYK-only printing. They also indicated embellishment could apply to a significant portion of their work. Embellishment options can include hot foil stamping, spot gloss UV, embossing, debossing, letterpress, diecut shapes, lamination, duplex, triplex, gold foil, silver foil, copper foil, white foil, black foil, clear foil, etching, and laser cutting techniques.

Think that really depends on your market. Our company has invested in some machinery recently (laser-cutter, Indigo) that would allow us to do some embellishment but there isn't much of an appetite here for that stuff that we've found. We've sold something here or there with raised print or cool laser-cut designs, but we largely serve B2B customers who are just trying to keep print costs within their budget. Just throwing some real-world experience out there.

That has been our experience. We try to sell variable data and other addons, but they just want the cheapest mass volume of printing possible.
