printing a pdf file

Ok so if we open a pdf file and want to print right from the file one would go to file and print and go from there. Well when we go to file and then click on print it takes a good minute or longer for the driver box to open for us to then select a printer. However if we go to print an office file no problems the box pops open right away as it should.

It is only on our 1 pc that does this but it is our main graphics pc so it is such a pain.

Not sure what upgrades caused this if any since we noticed this issues but if anything it was just normal XP upgrades, java, and other software updates.

We are running CS3 if that makes a difference and Windows XP. All was fine and we noticed this happening about 2 weeks ago.

You might try downloading the latest driver for that printer. then in Windows Printers and Faxes delete the printer and recreate it using that new driver. If nothing else you've at least eliminated the driver as the source of trouble. I've seen drivers work just fine in some apps but not in others. Also, some RIPs such as Fiery let you directly import the PDF which is always a better way since it eliminates any variables that a driver might introduce.

Also, try the latest version of Acrobat reader.
if you are just opening and printing, you don't need any of the options from the full versions, but if you're using CS3, then you're on....what, acrobat 7?
try Acrobat Reader 10. I've had luck doing that on some of the older PCs. it's a quick, free fix.
