problem with UV coating on a digital printer

Not being too familiar with the Xerox Colotech paper line . . . is it coated or uncoated - from what I have found online is that it might be a supercalendared sheet (uncoated) in my experience its kinda hard to UV or varnish an uncoated sheet - the coating just kinda soaks in and dissappears which would explain why the image area looks ok and the non image area doesnt - the solid toner area would act like a coating and hold out the UV on top of it while the uncoated area wouldn't . .. just a guess . . . ..
