hello!

i would like to buy a c9800 and asked for testprints. i received them today, but it seems that the quality is not like expected. now reading around here founded people using this machine and very happy with it. then asked me if maybe the quality of the received prints are standard or not... i don't know, maybe where the drums kaputt or so...

i made now a photo of one print, maybe can someone tell me if this quality is standard for the oki c9800? are the lines appearing on yr printer aswell?

thank you!

We run an OKI C9650, which is a similar machine. The drums are the big let down. Fine for an office printing out emails all day, but for graphic arts, the print quality drops to an unacceptable level after about 30% of their life. Mine sits there all day not being used now, as the quality cannot compare with my Xerox DC250.

solid areas

I have seen OKi with ES version calibarted for print proof. But the reality is not very good. Especially check the solid areas or gradient background, it is not acceptable unless for office use. Dont go for it

Totally 2 different tpyes of printers. They both have their purposes.

We have a 252 and LOVE it. Just wish we could do #10 envelopes without them wrinkling. We will run them and let the customer decide but they dont come out perfect.
I have considered getting the OKI for letterhead and envelopes but not sure if it is worth getting. The color is definitely not as vibrant on the OKI, or Xante, or other similar printers but then again if it is just for some small color for letterhead/ envelopes these units bang them out fast and no wrinkles. I would never get one of these units and flood a page with ink. I recall the sales rep telling me my cost for a small amount of ink for letterhead or envelopes was roughly pennies but if I were to print a full color, full bleed flyer it could be $.25 or more. Still on the fence for these. If I keep getting more short run letterhead and envelope inquiries I will highly consider the OKI as it is more then half the cost of the xante.
