Renaming links within the Links palette (InDesign)?

Is there a plug-in available that would allow you to rename links within the Links palette? This would need to also rename the link within the finder as well.

I’ve used renaming scripts before, but I would like more control over the naming protocol than I have had with scripts. For example, a single page may have several links; some artwork, some hand-lettered text. And I would want to control how each link is named.

I realize this is a big order, but figured someone may be offer some advice/suggestions.

I posted this to InDesign Secrets as well.

Thanks.

Thanks for this! Looks like Tomaxxi's script is exactly what I was looking for. It allows you to remame within InDesign, without having to rename all links. You can cherry pick.

Yes, the original linked file is not renamed in the file system (even though the link is renamed and the path is not broken), however when you do a “package” the copied links in the package file are renamed in the file system. A little bit of magic!

I'm not quite following you. I've run some tests with files accessing links from my local drive and file accessing links from a server. In both cases, the file is renamed before packaging. Or at least it appears to be in the Finder.

My mistake, I think that I got confused with file names, I agree it does also rename the original link at the system level.

Glad the script does what you require Gregg!
