New Jersey-based Starnet Printing is a one-stop shop that provides end-to-end creative & production services in house, including photography, graphic design, packaging concept, pre-press, printing, die-cutting, finishing, mailing and fulfillment.

Recently, they added a pre-owned, 6-color, 40-inch Heidelberg Speedmaster, perfector. Avoiding the machine’s known marking issues, Starnet decided to retrofit the press with two XP9 LED-UVs from Air Motion Systems.

Expecting to face issues learning the nuances of LED inks, Starnet found them to be a lot easier to use–the opposite of what they expected. They found that the end-of-day cleanup–removing ink, wash down, piles of rags–is no longer necessary with LED inks, saving them valuable time.

Bringing the AMS LED UV setup to its operation has also expanded their product offerings–now able to print on plastics and other nonporous substrates, & producing popular, static clings.

This is all well and good, but unless it is a "cold UV" system, special attention should well be focused on keeping the reversing drum/pincer bar well cleaned and lubricated!
