Does anyone know why customer supplied Illustrator eps file converts linked art solid k text to rich Black?

Is the document color mode set to RGB color in Illustrator? If so, try changing it to CMYK.

No they are both in CMYK.

Yes, but they are the same.

Here is test art which shows issue.

In the .ai file, I converted "black (copy)" to grayscale color mode, saved it, opened the .eps file and updated the link. This seemed to keep the black as just black.

Thanks, that will help. My work around has been to open print pdf's and use pitstop pro color convert action. It would only work on fills and not strokes, even though strokes selected.

Can you upload a pdf as well please?
I can’t tell much from the .ai or .eps

Preference setting -- they have it set to output as rich black.
