Ricoh 901s Default paper sizes 13 x 19 option

I am looking to see if the 13 x 19 paper size is on anyones Ricoh 901 as a selectable paper size without using the custom paper size option. We just had this machine installed and the 13 x 19 size is not available as one of the default sizes even though it will run it. I put the size in as a custom size and tried to print and found that it had a smaller out-feed bracket and would not eject the 13 x 19 even after it printed it. The tech replaced the bracket with a larger size so we are now able to print 13 x 19 but that had me thinking maybe there was some software setting somewhere that has disabled the 13 x 19 option. We also have a Ricoh C751 which has the 13x19 as a selectable option available.

The machine we have was a demo model from one of ricoh's facilities and our service tech and specialists have found many crazy settings (from their testing I guess) in the machine that have caused a few quality issues. We still can get a good solid image on any type of lightly textured paper like vellum bristol for example. It is like it's not putting enough toner on the sheet and any solid of picture looks EXTREMELY muddled and blotchy.

Long story short, should the 901s have any option for selecting 13 x 19 as one of the default paper size options or is it always required to be set as a custom size?

I haven't tied to set 13 x 19 manually for a while so I don't remember for sure but when I do select one of our 13 x 19 sheets out of the paper library it says custom for the size where most of the other papers give the size. So i would say its very possible it is only available as a custom size although that does seem a bit odd. I can check when I'm at the office tomorrow. We do run it all the time and it outputs fine to any tray.

Thanks for the reply jrsc. Did you have a chance to check and see if it was available as a preset size?

It's not available as a preset size but you can setup a custom one and pick it from there. Otherwise just put in 13x19 as a custom size.

If you are having a problem with fill on textured paper try setting up a custom paper and adjusting the paper transfer current FC and paper transfer current BW. I can't remember what the default is but you want to set it closer to 0. Like if it's -70 try -50. You don't want to go too far though because that will make it look bad too. Also too high of a fuser temp can make it look blotchy too. You can also adjust that if you make a custom paper.

Thanks so much for the info. I will give that a try today and see what we can do. the main issue I think is our "training" is several weeks out, but we need to be producing on the machine now! This forum will be a big help!

I did check and we don't have 13 x 19 as a default size option. It has to be set as a custom size.

Did you try just calling for service? The tech should be able to tell you as much as the trainer will :)

I did, but I think the tech has been less than happy with our situation due to all the problems with the install and unfamiliarity with the equipment. It took almost a month to get everything up and working to the point it is now and we still don't have our perfect binder installed due to the lack on power. We never got the pre-site inspection and have been scrambling to get the items needed to run all of the equipment. The tech also said the trainer was the guy to talk to on that stuff... He is a great guy and was upfront about them not sending him to school yet on the 901 and I respect that.
