Ricoh C700 to be released

I have been told by someone within Ricoh that they expect to release a 70ppm Color unit based on the C900 in the upcoming months. The unit is to fewer finishing capabilities then the C900 will be priced to compete with the Xerox 700 and KM C6501.

It was confirmed it will be the C900 with the engine slowed. The RIPs will be the same and they hope it fills the void between the C700EX and the C900.

I would love to hear feedback on this move.

Everyone is trying to compete with the KM6500/1 price point. Gotta have that cheap entry level device.

Ricoh C720 & C720S

Ricoh C720 & C720S

Here is some accurate info on the Ricoh C720 & C720S

This is based on the C900 platform and is a slowed down version. There is no modification to turn this into the C900. The C720 will print at 72PPM and has the same Fiery that the C900 has. The finishing options are limited to Saddle Stitch booklet maker and standard finisher. The in-line perfect bind and ring bind will not work on the C720. This was done to differentiate the two units. Also the pricing will be more inline with the KM6500 series and the X700 series. Everything else is the same. The C720 will run all of the same media that the C900 will. Any questions let me know.

And yes I do work for Ricoh.

knowing Ricoh, their pricing will probably be more aligned to a DocuColor 252 or KM 5500. cheap.

Bit depth

Bit depth

So if I understand what Ubertech is saying, bit depth is the only spec that determines quality? If that is true, then is the quality off the Xerox DC700 bad because it is at one-bit? but wait, that Xerox engine has 2400 dpi, and the KM 6501 is at 600 dpi. Does that make a difference in the image quality?

Nope, the quality is equivlent to each other. As I have mentioned before, KM and Xerox are getting the same results using two different methods. A xerox print is not twice as good as a KM and a KM print is not 8 times better than a xerox.

All machines have pros and cons and I would find it amazing if you weighed up all your options and the crunch decison came down to DPI/Bitdepth.

Wondering if anyone has had problems printing from a desktop through the fiery to do ring binding? I can't get it to work from my desk, but I can copier a document at the machine to ring bind, and that works.

Couple questions come to mind such as which Fiery, what printer and which driver are you using? Does it work if you import the file into CWS?
