Rubbish output from Epson 9880

Hi guys I'm wondering if anyone can shed any light on why I get such rubbish results sometimes on my Epson 9880.
This image prints perfectly on my Canon A4 printer, however, on the Epson 9880 it is flat, with no contrast.
I have ALWAYS had a problem with the Epson printing out way darker that the original photos.
Don't know what else to do but ask you guys, spent hours and hours searching google for answers but in the end just confused myself more.
Thanks in anticipation.

Not enough specific info.

Using the native Epson printer driver or a RIP?

Using Epson media or another brand of media?

What OS? What file format? What program is printing? Are they RGB or CMYK originals?

Clogged nozzles, wrong paper type selected, double color management (application plus printer). If you are printing from Photoshop or Acrobat using the Epson printer driver you can use my lab settings here: http://dmc.sfa.ku.edu/DMC/HELP!!_files/PrintingEpson7890.pdf
If you follow the instructions and the machine is functioning normally, it's right 100% of the time, no questions asked. If you want to use custom ICC profiles and non-Epson papers, the workflow is a little different, but this is what we teach our students to start with.
