Short run on demand books larger than 8 1/2 x 11

Hi All,
10+ years ago I owned a large digital pre-press company and it was a great experience and lifestyle (but many late nights!). I am now involved in book publishing and I was very surprised that all the on demand hard cover book printers are 8.5 x 11 (lightning Press or CreateSpace).

I'm looking for a printer that could help me and wondered if this limitation is digital press related or simply that I have not found the right printer with the right equipment. If short run presses exist that can print a hard cover 9 x 12 finished book, what type of equipment is that so I can search for a printer... I realize that larger than 8.5 x 11 short run brings up more time in binding etc, but there seems to be a real demand for self publishers (especially children's books).

Or a Kodak Nexpress SX, image area 340 x 510 mm or 340 x 904 mm / 13.4 x 20 or 13.4 x 35.6 inch.

Thanks. Seems like a market someone should be able to go after - especially since many premium children's books are hard cover and larger than 8 1/2 x 11

Hi, many of mid to large print boxes will give you a chance to print 9x12 page.
Our konica minolta bizhub c65hc can take a 13x19 sheet and put image 12.5x18.5 on it, Oki cx 3641 can actually print a banner 12.5x47. Which can be suitable to print a cover .
