Sleeking Fit Issues

I am trying to do a Clear Foil print with no lamination. I am printing the Sleek 4/c print first with everything else white, then sleek clear foil on it. When I run that sheet back through my printer to print the remaining 4/c print, its not fitting to the sleek print. I have tried measureing the image before sleeking and then after and adjusted my 2nd print file accordingly to try to allow for the changing sheet size but each sheet seems to be a little different. I have also added trapping of about 1.5mm and it works better, but some sheets are still off a little. What is everyone else doing to make this work?

Too many variable's with toner based presses. Heat, speed, paper thickness and sheet-to-sheet bounce. Also, after you print a sheet the paper shrinks and I would assume you also get another bit of shrinkage when run through your sleeker press. We avoid tight register with sleeked jobs.

We've done this with our indigo successfully but I wouldn't recommend it with a toner press. Even the mechanical gripper of the indigo can have a slight hairline 0.1-0.2mm sheet-to-sheet misregistration requiring a little trapping.

You probably also want an air-suction feeder and an paper path side guide for your press to do this better. This should give you a more consistent sheet-to-sheet registration.

Another idea is to dry run the paper across the press or through a warm laminator to preheat and pre-expand the paper.
