Verdant 2100 Maintenance

Our Versant 2100 doesn't seem to be as reliable as our C75. But I think part of the downtime could be avoided. We have had problems with parts like belt cleaners leaving dirt, and fusers coming apart. The tech support guy tells me we are supposed to have those parts on hand, but the service guys say that they can't order extras to keep on hand. Have any of you guys with Versants had similar experience, or do you have parts on hand?

When our second fused failed, our service guy got us a spare, but he made comments inferring he wasn't supposed to let us have a spare, as they don't want you replacing them until a tech makes sure they are bad.

Our techs said they generally worked on 560s, and below. There are a couple C75s they work on, ours being one, but no other Versants in their service area.

I would think the would have a TKO program for the 2100 like they have for the 1000. We do almost all the service on our 1000, as a matter of fact we just saw our tech for the first time in almost 2 months.

I am getting the feeling that it was intended to be like that, but that the guys in the field, and the people up a level or two, haven't been informed. Our machine came with a giant parts locker bigger than I am. One of the tech support guys said that it was to hold our spare parts, but the only spare parts we have, besides toner and drums, are roller kits and filters.

We have a whole set of parts and then some for our 2100. Only parts not stocked ahead are the lasers. I think there are 5 fusers here. 3 that are in use that I change as needed and 2 unopened boxes.

We have had our 2100 for about 2 months now. No issues and has been running like a champ. Our J75 was a nightmare, so looks like we are opposite. We are supposed to be getting a cabinet to store parts, nothing yet. We do have a few boxes of parts they shipped us, not sure what is in them.

Our Versant has been down twice for fuser failure, a few times for belt cleaner problems, and because of a bad 2nd BTR. So it has been relatively minor things. Our C75 has had similar problems, plus developer housings and a bad board, but since we have extra fusers on hand, and the belt cleaner seems to last so much longer, it isn't down as much.

Lee have had at least 3 service calls on the 2100 for belt cleaner maintenance.

Our 2100 was installed in January. We've had it about 6-months now, and have put close to 2 million clicks on it. A few minor problems, more in the beginning than now, but, techs clear it up quickly. I think pretty much all installs, regardless of manufacturer, seem to have a few problems. Most revolve around shipping bolts, clamps, or braces that weren't properly removed upon installation, or, other new machine set-up problems. We see our Xerox service tech about once a month, but, then, we're putting a lot of volume on it. We have parts stored on site, enough to fill up that parts locker as well as shelves we have in the print room. All in all, a good solid printer. Have not had ANY fuser problems since it was installed 6 months ago (this machine doesn't have a "fuser", per se, it's a "fuser belt" that seems much more durable than the actual fusers that we have on our DocuColor 8000AP).

Both our fusers have failed by having the material behind the belt separate, and wadding up behind the belt causing it to crease. I can't imagine it was anything we did.

Those are some impressive volumes. We only have 800K on ours, and we have had it running for 6.5 months.

Did those fuser belt problems happen within the first couple of months after the install?

The first failed last year, the second failed last month. Both fusers were put in early on.

I always examine the fuser belts when I change them. I have not seen anything like you described with the belt assembly.

Almost sounds like something is causing them to shred. Have you pulled the belts and checked for anything? Do you have a pad and wick on your fusers? Do you clean all the crusted toner off the rollers under the belt?

Looks like I we are going to have to keep extra IBT belts on hand. This is the second time this has happened when I had a paper jam when toner on the paper that was between the belt and the 2nd BTR got fused to the belt. First time the jam was in the finisher and yesterday we had a power failure. The belts are basically unusable after this happens and have to be replaced. So for the heck of it (since it was not usable in its condition) I pulled the IBT tray out and used the edge of paper to scraped the toner off the belt. Some had to be rubbed off with alcohol to remove it. In a pinch this could work but if your printing dark solids you will noticed where the belt was scratched when remover the toner.

One big problem that I see is if there is paper between the two engine units and it won't purge when a jam is cleared it is very difficult to get it out. You can't open the trays or pull it out without tearing the paper.

We have had ZERO training on this machine. The technicians have handled everything. We have had recurring problems with the pressure roller, under the fuser, getting buildup on it. We run the cleaning tool regularly, and use sheets and felt for the cleaning.
