Verifying Proofs > Plate Files > TIFFs > Plates

Right now we have three types of digital files for any given job: Proofs, plate files, and 1-bit TIFFs.

Everything starts with the plate file. This 1-up image is checked and adjusted for our needs on press. Trap, bleed, minimum color percentages, stroke thickness, holding lines, etc... It all happens on this file.

The plate file is then linked into the proof where all of the job info is filled in around it. Measurements, plate count, color blocks, client name, rev number, etc... all on the proof file.

The plate file is sent to the RIP where it is separated, stepped across, stepped around, distorted, bearer bars are added, etc... The RIP turns this into 1-14 1-bit TIFF files which get sent to the laser to make the plates.

So that's our current set up. Plate file becomes the proof. Plate file becomes the TIFFs. Even still, I've been asked to look into a digital comparison solution so that we can verify that the proof, plate, and TIFF files are all identical to each other. My question is, how have other Prepress departments been verifying their files are all the same to each other?
