Versant 280 Alignment Range, specifically skew

Hi,

Recently got a v280 installed and having trouble with skew. Working on new alignment profiles as we progress through different stocks but have got stuck with a 300gsm gloss SRA3.
Basically when I run the SIQA one side is straight but the other still needs more Skew.

When I check manual adjustments under Skew I can only adjust side 1 from -1.3 to 4.7 and side 2 from -3.8 to 2.2. I'm guessing I need side one to be about -2 to be straight.

When I check all my heavier weight profiles it seems all side 1s are either at -1.3 or -1.2 so it seems i've just been lucky up to now that they are straight.

I had a tech in last week who didn't seem too phased by the limited range of Skew but went over the base alignment check and seemed happy all was well within spec and made a few smaller adjustments just to be sure but this didn't change my limited skew range on side 1.

Anyone have any idea what limits the Skew range, I feel something is physically off in the machine and the software can't compensate any further.

I don’t have any Xerox equipment anymore but I used to battle this with a J75 so ought to be somewhat similar. We found something misaligned from the feeding section, as well as an issue with the scanner (assuming that is how the SIQA is being input on your machine)…once those were corrected it was better / matched our other J75, though these machines were never great at registration.

I think you're right with the feeder misalignment. The calibration sheet is wildly off, to the point of the crosshairs in one corner are slightly off the edge of the sheet.

When they installed it I had to take the showroom feeder for the first two weeks before my new one arrived. I don't remember the few alignments I made on the showroom unit being off. The calibration sheet being off as mentioned above was one of the first things I spotted when the new one was installed.
I remember the engineer fighting with the new one to get it to connect the machine. I think I'll have to ask them to remove and refit it again to be sure.

There is a hardware adjustment that can be made at the paper infeed section. Not sure if your issue is the same as the issue I had on the 280 but worth a try. I fixed my alignment issue by running the Register Paper Feeding Positions. I'm not in the shop today but I believe this setting is found under maintenance when you're logged in as administrator. Give it a try, hope it helps. All this assumes that the paper is square.

Thank you TJPrinter. Just got in the shop and ran that Register Paper Feeding Positions and it appears to have fixed it.
My adjustment parameters are still the same on the skew but the adjustment needed is pretty much in the centre point of each so plenty of range to move either direction. Hopefully this will be common for all stocks from that tray as I realign them. Can't believe the engineer didn't run that.

They didn't run it on mine either and didn't know about the feature. I found it by dumb luck and frustration, but it solved my problem.

I've often experienced these issues before on my Versant 280, especially on 400gsm. I found setting up one for both sides in paper profile did improve registration, although that stock seems to always skew. When opening new packs of paper, I always use the guillotine and square all the edges. It's quite surprising how off some packs of paper can be coming from the manufacture. I then also pen a black line down one side of the cut paper, as a lay mark reference, so paper in the tray is always facing the same way. Another general maintenance cleaning bits I do that I find helps now and again is cleaning on the inside of the right door, in the centre section, removing the alignment register sensor and in the high capacity trays feeder.
