Very quick rant

OK, sent a black only ad as PDFX1a to this community newspaper earlier this week. Got a call from the guy saying he can't place it in Corel Draw (???). To make me feel better he said "don't worry, I will open it in Acrobat Reader, make a screen capture and place the image in Corel". So of course I declined his offer and supplied him a outlined font (his request) eps file. Is it me or is it just getting worse. I would expect such kind of "solution" from my 8 year old daughter but from someone dealing with printing...

When printers want to pay wages in the $8 - $10 per hour range for their prepress people this is what you get.

your dealing with a newspaper they just dont give a damn. we had a newspaper send us a 4 color ad for a client we hade in common. they printed out the separations on a laser printer and sent over paper copy. we ended up redoing the ad. we should move that discussion to another heading. but these values are why we don't build anything in the usa any more. who cares just print it.
