Welcome Nix Sensor: Precision Color Control in the Palm of Your Hand

At PrintPlanet, we’re always looking for tools that make life easier in the pressroom. Color control sits at the top of that list - it’s where quality, waste, and customer satisfaction are won or lost. That’s why we’re excited to welcome Nix Sensor, led by founder and CEO Matthew Sheridan, as our newest sponsor.

Since 2013, Nix has built a reputation for developing lab-grade color measurement tools that are easier to use and are more competitively priced than the “other guys”. Their flagship handheld device, the Nix Spectro 2, was brought to market in partnership with Sun Chemical, is compatible with existing X-Rite color databases, and is designed for real-world print production environments. Instead of bulky equipment and complex workflows, printers can now measure ink density and capture precise color data directly at the press. The benefit? Faster make-readies, fewer reruns, and tighter brand-color compliance.
But hardware is only half the story. Nix backs up its spectrophotometer hardware with an award-winning software ecosystem - Nix Print Pro Desktop and Nix Print Pro Mobile. These tools let managers and operators share colors, compare QC results across shifts, and build easily digestible reports. Whether you’re troubleshooting a job on press or handing off between shifts, the workflow is designed to keep everyone speaking the same color language.

Sheridan’s vision was simple: to give printers the same precision that labs rely on, but in a format tailored to the realities of production. For shops seeking consistency across multiple devices or simply trying to reduce waste, Nix delivers a practical edge without overcomplicating the process.

We’re proud to have Nix Sensor join the PrintPlanet community, and we think their tools will resonate with printers who want to work smarter, not harder. Watch for a hands-on feature soon where we’ll take the Spectro 2 and Print Pro software through a live press run.

In the meantime, you can learn more about Nix Sensor’s solutions on their sponsor page and start thinking about how portable color control could fit into your workflow.

I've heard about these but never looked into them. With the price point I may be able to finally talk my company into buying one of these so I don't have to go out and take the one off the press (I'm in prepress).
