Who are the suppliers?

Do some of you use multiple suppliers because of performance differences?

If you can, reveal how much are you paying for these products? Quantities/price per lb.?

We find most coatings we have tested run about the same here at our shop. Specifically 2 different brands we have used in the past 6 months are aqueous coatings from "Prisco" and one from "Coating & Adhesives Company". We dont usually change coatings due to performance differences, but that has just been our experience with the suppliers we have used. I'm sure there are inferior AQs out there, but the 4 or different brands we have used through the years seem to perform (press-wise) about the same. We mainly just try to keep up to date with an order every so often from a secondary supplier for emergency backup considerations.

Aqueous coatings are pretty much all the same nowadays. Sure some will give you a bit better shine, some will set up a little bit quicker and some smell a bit while others dont. If a suppliers coating doesnt work it gets around the trade real quick and its gone. Those of us in packaging are constantly looking for the cheapest, highest quality, smoothest, highest gloss reading AQ that we can get, its such a competitive market that second best doesnt cut it. Try any of the big names Sun, Flint. A word of advice though you might want to stick with the coating that your ink company supply because if and when you run into a problem there is only one person to point the finger at.

Good reply sir, and it must be said, your last sentence is the Platinum Rule. D

Check out Actega Kelstar (ACTEGA Kelstar - ACTEGA) They have plenty of coatings for both AQ & UV applications. Our technical sales reps can help you out and our lab can formulate/customize a solution for you.

I like Nicoat the best. Their price is higher but they are awesome with customer service. They have a coating for everything and the work and turn coating and satin that we were using had the least amount of odor. I would start with them and when you get comfortable with coating then start shopping around. We tried using Mallard ( before they started selling Nicoat) and it printed nice. Wasnt till we started cutting it where it stuck like a brick. We used Kelstar which was real good but one of our press operators got migraines from it and we had to go back to Nicoat

RGPW17100 - when was this?

Probably about 3 years ago. We had a suspended ceiling which might have been part of the problem. Since then we have moved to a warehouse where the ceilings are 20 ft high. The nicoat in my opinion is a much better coating however because of the price we no longer use it
