Xerox C75 RAM upgrade...

Does anyone know if the RAM on the C75 is upgradeable? Someone advised that I try and when I asked my salesman he didn't think that it was possible. It currently has 2GB and just to clarify I am talking about the machine itself, NOT the RIP.

If your salesman doesn't know for sure, he needs to find out. If you have the phone number of your service tech, try calling him.

My feeling is that if this was an option, it should have been offered to you when you bought or leased the machine. If RAM is a problem for you, keep at them until you get a satisfactory answer.

I know it was upgradeable on our doc 260, it was upgraded to 1 gig by our tech. Doubt the sales guys would know anything about the specifics, techs are the guys to talk to.

Are you having issues where you need more then 2 gigs of ram? We are currently looking at a j75 to replace our 260.

I am not sure. More RAM was suggested by another forum member. We have problems with running large files and it didn't seem like it was the RIP that was choking. They suggested that the machine itself was running out of RAM when the RIP was sending it the data.

I am waiting on a call from 2nd tier tech support right now for another issue that may or may not be related. Every month we do a mailing and the customer gives us some .jpg images that we put into Indesign and then merge with the variable data, which is just some barcodes and an address. When you use the RIPs freeform ability it is still slow as molasses on these jobs. It rips almost immediately, but then the printer cycles down between each and every sheet, even though the whole job has been RIPed.

We are looking at upgrading to an external Fiery for APPE and maybe that would solve some of these issues.

When we had our issues, it was with variable data. The job would print only so many pages, then start spitting out lines. I guess it had reached the end of the line memory wise, I think we had 512 mb at the time.

Before we moved up we had a machine without a RIP and it would do the very same thing. And it was unbelievably slow to process files.
