Xerox ColorQube and offline finishing

We are looking into getting a ColorQube for our color needs, currently working with KMC500 and RISOs.

Is anyone running ColorQube printed stock as cover in an offline collator? Any rub-off or problems? Thanks :)

ColorQube ... Really?

ColorQube ... Really?

Would love to know what model you are looking at. Last time I saw anything off of a ColorQube it did not look remotely close to output you could sell. Has something changed?

I would doubt Xerox is offering this as a production unit. Are they?

Sorry, I can't help answer your question. No printer I know in the Toronto area uses the ColorQube.

sorry, this is not about output quality it's about being able to use offline finishing ;) the ouput is good enough for what I have in mind.

I would be very careful of running anything from a solid ink machine through finishing equipment. The ink lifts off and sticks to plastic and rubber rollers, causing ink transfer and marks in non printed areas. We've tried running some in the past, but the marks and having to clean all the rollers constantly are not worth it.

We have seen this occur on our Rollem 990, Rosback Perf, Baum Folder, MBM booklet maker, and also our cutter. On the cutter the ink rubs off on the table if double sided, and also sticks to the blade a little.

We bought one of the first solid ink machines 3 or 4 year ago as a pilot from Xerox. I think they had to replace the print head 3 times before we got one that would work right. The technology in the ColorQube is much better now.

Its neat for some projects, but for most things, its not really practical. It will print on chip board, and other heavy stocks you wouldn't normally think could be printed on. Clear plastic.

I find it nice to address envelopes as won't crease them like a laser, and its water proof unlike inkjet. We've also run 12x18 full coverage event posters. Its best used for short time use items, like apointment reminder cards, stuff like that. Any long term storage is really pushing the technology, as the ink will melt and stick together if left for long periods of time.
