Xitron Navigator 8.3 queue question

When we send a file for our platesetter with disable output checked...if it sits in the active queue over the weekend without being released, come Monday AM, the file name is there, but it is unavailable to expose. Is there a timeout, or auto purge setting? I can't find anything related in the manual.

Thanks!

What type of output device?
Are you shutting down the computer over the weekend?
Are you shutting down the platesetter over the weekend?

If you are outputting TIFF files and not directly connected to a device (through an interface) it could be that when you shut down the computer you are disconnecting any mapped drives so when the computer boots back up the connections to the mapped drives have been lost and need to be reinitialized before the RIP computer can write out to them.

If you are shutting down the platesetter but not the RIP computer you may need to restart the RIP computer after booting or rebooting the platesetter.

There is not a setting in the RIP that would cause what is being described. It may be a connection issue.

It's a Screen PlateRite 8600 with a direct interface.

Yes...they shut down the platesetter, but not the RIP computer. The files are already there, and painted to disk, so i don't think it's a mapped drive issue...but maybe it is a matter of rebooting the RIP after initializing the platesetter. I'll give that a shot, but it doesn't seem to happen on a nightly basis...only over a prolonged time span.

I didn't think there was a setting for that...I scannned the documentation and found nothing relevant.

Thanks for your thoughts. I'll give it a shot.

Curious...why would that make the ripped data unavailable if it resides on the disk of the RIP computer whether the device is on or not?

It may have something to do with the USB interface or PCI bus (depending on the interface type), but more than likely rebooting the computer once the platesetter has been powered on will resolve the issue.

Just verified that the platesetter is shutdown each night and the RIP is left on. The problem oddly only happens after the weekend...a Mon. AM phenomenon.

Ok...it's Monday morning...I did as you suggested. Booted the setter, rebooted the rip and it emptied out the active queue. That's weird...why would it do that?

I haven't worked with a Harlequin RIP in many years, but I don't recall any weird happenings like this.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

About time you read the manual. It's huge but it does explain things. Open configure input channels and check all settings in there for the corresponding hotfolders or whatever you have as inputs, time to stabilize, what to do when the file submitted errors a.s.o. Next, it's not uncommon to send in files with weird names i.e. high ascii, beginning with dot or underscore esp. if they come from a mac - the rips doesn't know how to process them and flushes them out. Pre-rip stage applications such as acrobat imposition packages etc may not comply with the file naming convention expected by the rip itself. Next, check rip monitor messages and log file on what may happen with these files disappearing. Finally, it's good practice to boot your rip server after the output device is turned on and ready as explained before. If any of the above doesn't cure the problem you may try to reinstall the rip. Follow instructions in the manual on how to use the backup.ps file in the SW directory or rebuild all your settings from scratch ideally. Take screenshots of calibration curves as they won't be backed up.

When I have seen this happen it is because the Rip software has crashed. When you restart all the jobs will shift over. AS preressing has said it sounds like the Rip is losing connection with the interface. When it tries to restart the interface is not being seen. I would try to do a shut down of the PC instead a restart.

What OS are you running it on?
