Rampage to Heidelberg

Has anyone switched from Rampage/Preps to PrintReady/Signa? If so, I am curious to hear feelings on that ...

We switched from Creo/Kodak Brisque and Preps to Heidelberg Printready with Signa.
I can't imagine there is much difference going from any PS based rip to PDF workflow.

Is there something in particular you have problems with or you are contemplating a switch?

I was on Rampage /Preps for 6 years.
Now Meta/Signa for 5 years (1 year with the Adobe PDF Engine).
Basically,
I would pray that I would never need to touch Rampage (especially Preps) again.
I loved it (back then and was a very strong pusher for it)
but Rampage comes no where close, these days, to the
performance anf joy of the Meidelberg system (especially Signa over Preps).

Wow ... very surprised to hear that! We're just starting up with Heidelberg system. Haven't yet pulled the plug on Rampage. I'm finding the Heidelberg interface to be awful, to say the least! Just like anything, you need to get used to it but to accomplish something it seems like you're going all over the place ... clicking, clicking, clicking! I'm not a bells & whistles kinda gal ... I just want to get the job done fast and right and be able to quickly track and troubleshoot what's been done. Last week the Heidelberg instructor spent over an hour trying to figure out how we could make a gang run layout (or any type layout for that matter) where we could change the page numbers (ie page 1 on front is also page 1 on back). The majority of our layouts are unique. The way he showed us we'll end up with a zillion different schemes!!! The other big issue (which I gotta believe there's a way around) is two people can't be in the same job at the same time in Cockpit ???

But, WharfRat, you give me hope!!! I too love(d) Rampage and it's simplicity. Ugh ... maybe I'll give it another day!!

Rampage to Heidelberg

I am on the same boat, I went from Rampage, Prinergy, Preps to Heidelberg Prinect, Meta & Signa. This Heidelberg system reminds me of Nexus Art, were you needed to be a software developer in order to create workflows. It is very complex, I guess its a matter of finding everything and getting use to it.

I've used both, and if I had to switch from Rampage/Preps to Heidelberg Meta Dimensions/SignaStation
I'd drive off a bridge. To me Rampage is superior, especially when using the PDF trap engine. Meta's trapping is a pain in the @**!

I know this is an old post, but I just started using Prinect/Signa. I had used Rampage for several years and then started work at a shop using Delta/Signa. As far as I can tell Prinect is a bare bones rip. It definitely does not seem to be production oriented. I have heard rave reviews about prinect but no specific reason why it's great. I realize I came out of a Rampage shop that had all the latest and greatest, but Prinect doesn't seem to be very usable. It does rip pages and handle transparency well but that's all I can say for it. Signa does have some good stuff but does not have near the flexibility of preps. Marks are horrendous. I have yet to find a way to mirror marks properly, especially on work and turns.

Prinect also seems to be very buggy as a system, Metadimension is constantly going down. Right now we are not pushing a lot of work through, I don't know what I will do when the time comes that we have to.
