Komori Lithrone G40 Advance / G540 or Heidelberg CX 104?

Currently comparing the Komori Lithrone G40 Advance against the Heidelberg CX 104 for our first large-format press investment.

One major difference I noticed is that the Komori comes with automated colour scanning / closed-loop colour control, while the Heidelberg proposal we received only includes Easy Control (manual scan + operator adjustment, not fully automatic correction).

For shops without highly experienced pressmen, the Komori automation seems attractive because the press can continuously scan the colour bar and automatically adjust ink keys/register during production.

Would love to hear from real users:

  • Does the Komori colour scanning materially reduce operator dependency?
  • How accurate is it in maintaining colour consistency over long runs?
  • For those using Heidelberg Easy Control only (without Inpress), do operators still need frequent manual corrections?
  • In real production, does Komori’s automation noticeably reduce wastage and makeready time?
  • Is Heidelberg still superior in print quality/consistency even without full closed-loop scanning?

Especially interested to hear from commercial packaging printers or premium print houses running both systems.

Yes.Komori’s PDC-SX / PQA-S color scanning materially reduces operator dependency by:
  • Automatically measuring color bars and adjusting ink keys & register in closed-loop.
  • Replacing most manual visual checks and subjective tweaks.
  • Cutting makeready time and waste while delivering consistent results.
Limits: Still needs correct setup and occasional skilled intervention on complex jobs.Net effect: Shifts color control from high-skill art to reliable automation, allowing less experienced operators to run the press effectively.
