Versant 80 installed

We installed a Versant 80 yesterday. I was an upgrade from a C75 that we put 1.2M on in just over a year. Couple things I noticed after running half a day.

Jobs seem to process faster than the C75 but the machine seems to take a little longer to warm up and start printing.

The Fiery does not seem to be much faster than the C75. It still takes 2 minutes to start up.

Prints are a lot less glossy than the C75.

The 80 seems to use more toner. We are already completely out of toner and waiting on supplies to be shipped.

The 80 seems to run much quieter than the 75.

It takes forever for the machine to shut down completely. (up to 30 minutes)

Alignment profiles are much easier to set up than the 75.

We ran over 7500 sheets with no jams.

High cap feeders are now set up so customer can change feed tires etc.

It is a different fusing technology then the C75. We went from a J75 to a Versant 2100. A different look for sure, but I prefer the prints on there Versant. When it is shutting down there are fans that keep going to keep the insides cool till it is properly cooled down. We were told if the power went off, or for some reason we were unplugging it from the wall after shutting down that we should open it up and pull out the fuser tray so it cools down properly.

I did not notice any real improvements on the RIP side of things, if anything it seems to be worse when handling PDF's with Adobe Print Engine selected.

I love the paper catalogue and saving profiles for different stocks, a fantastic feature! Enjoy the new machine!

Our 2nd Versant 2100 is scheduled to be installed tomorrow morning. We've been using the first one for about a year now, with no complaints. Excellant quality, minimum down time. Good, solid piece of gear.

Enjoy your new Versant 80!

I ran some #10 envelopes yesterday. They come out looking perfect and did not have one jam. This is the first Xerox machine I have had that runs envelopes properly. I talked to the tech yesterday. He said that about 3 minutes after pressing the power button everything else but the cooling fans will be shut down. After 3 minutes you can safely turn off the main power and open the front door for it to finish cooling.

I'd wait for the light to stop flashing before powering down, it can take sometime (up to an hour, depending on how the machine was used) but as far as i know it's to stop the toner from solidifying due to the heat. you can open the front door and pull out the fuser a little if you need to switch it off in a hurry, but otherwise it's probably best to wait.

Envelope printing is a big bonus with this machine. The only time I have had a jam was when I had some envelopes curl under each other when loading. So user error. I keep both high cap feeders full of envelopes when printing and just let it go. The only thing that would be nice is to print to the stacker tray. I have to stand with it and keep emptying.

We never turn off the main power in our prepress/digital room. I turn the machine off, but that it is still connected to power to do its thing while it cools down.

For envelope printing, I always recommend face-up output to top tray. It does require more unloading, but, you avoid rollers and handling of the envelope. Keep in mind an envelope ends up being 4 sheets of paper in a single pass. We are planning a Google Hangout with Versant customers who are doing envelope printing to share experience, tips and tricks - if anyone is open to being on the panel (your would join by phone or your PC with webcam), send me a message ([email protected]). Thanks, Brian @ Xerox.

There is no option to print to any other tray, at least that is the way it is on the Versant 2100. That is the one downside, you have to constantly empty the tray as it prints so quick and fills up very fast.

On our J75, we usually just make it into a quick thing where one person empties and the other loads or turns the flaps out. Job gets done fast and there is no anxiety about it filling up and jamming or crinkling the other printed envelopes.

Loading is easy on our 2100. I use both high cap feeders, when one is empty, the other goes and I reload. It is not hard, it would just be nice to be able to let it run a bit longer. Every 2 mins or so it needs to be emptied. Never have any issue with jamming or crinkling and no need to turn the flaps out. It really is nice being able to run envelopes with ease.

Just ordered my Versant 80 1-20-16. It's going to be replace the C75 I put in December 2014. Have been averaging over 68,000 per month so Xerox made a sweet deal for the replacement. One of the big factors in making the decision, as the C75 has been a work horse with only 4 service calls in the past year, was the ability to print envelopes. I've had to outsource them and to have the ability to print in-house is a huge plus. A friend of mine was doing the envelopes on a Xante and when I asked him how he liked it, his response was don't do it, so I've been waiting and after reading the posts and actually seeing it done, I ordered one.

What configuration are you getting?

Versant[SUP]®[/SUP] 80 Press, Advanced High Capacity Feeder, Booklet Maker Finisher, SquareFold™ Trimmer Module, Xerox[SUP]®[/SUP] EX 80 Print Server. Was told about 3 to 4 weeks out as they are really starting to move and a lot of that is because of the ability to print #10's. Are you satisfied with everything it will do? Had any issues? Can't wait to get it in the door. Will be the only person within 20 miles that can do full color #10's. There are 12 print shops within 15 miles of me so considering offering some type of wholesale program to them too, just considering it right now.

Coming from a sales point of view, we have had a great deal of success with the V80 so far. The biggest benefit of this platform as opposed to the J75 is the web system, brought down from the V2100. Running envelopes is a huge plus and of course with the Performance model, you get inline spectrophotometer and ASRS (All Stocks Rated Speed) mode. Very similar to J75, just better looking prints in my opinion.

Very happy with the press so far. The main problems I have so far is that when you change the paper type it can take up to several minutes for the press to go through the warmup or cooldown. For large runs it is no issue but it can be a pain when printing single set proofs of multiple projects on different stocks. The other problem is they seem to be very slow in shipping supplies. With all my other machine I would put in an order and it would be shipped the same day or next day. With the Versant 80 I have several orders that have been in for 3-4 days and are not shipped yet. That too will be ok once we get the stock built up a little. We ran just over 160k in the first month on the 80 so keeping supplies in stock has been a challenge.

We installed a Versant 80 Press 3 weeks ago and we are very happy with the quality and totally worths it, but looks like it use a lot of toner.
We have been using Konica Minolta machines before and there was a function of toner saving mode.
Does anybody knows how we can save toner on Xerox?...is there any function on the EFI controler which can reduce the toner usage?

Are you paying for toner outright? (are you not being charged a click charge that includes toner and all other consumables)?

We have a C75 and 2100. With the 2100s much larger toner containers, which I assume the 80 has, toner lasts much, much longer than on our C75.

We do have jobs that require the (Glossy) mode on the C75, so I wish the 2100 offered that.

The V80 toners are the same size as the C75 series. We go through a lot on the 80 We have 12 to 16 rounds of each color on the shelf right now. Don't rely on auto replenishment either.

Do you ever run into a problem with ordering extra toner and keeping on hand. I generally don't, but one month I ordered the same amount I always do, and I got a call from some "non-american accent" woman wanting to know why I ordered so much. Blah Blah Blah. Even went so far as saying they were going to need some prints of what we have been printing. I kept saying that I am ordering normal amounts of everything and she kept arguing. Finally she said well theres no need to order 27 K toners at a time. I only ordered 15, which is around our monthly K usage and she just said oops, sorry and hung up.
