Study shows face masks don’t stop infections

To quote from The Peter Principle: "In any economic or political crisis, one thing is certain. Many learned experts will prescribe many different remedies."

Even though Peter didn't mention a health crisis, I think the current pandemic demonstrates this principle magnificently.

I think the biggest thing that non Americans don’t understand (and a lot of Americans) is that Americans tend to be very individualistic people.

In the words of the great Ben Franklin, “those who sacrifice security for freedom deserve neither”.

Wearing a mask during a pandemic has nothing to do with freedom. It has to do with compassion for yourself and others.

I really don't understand the crusade of people trying to get other people to not wear masks. If it prevents one droplet of spittle from an infected person getting into my lungs it is worth it. One thing is for certain, if you aren't wearing a mask and the person you happen to be talking to within 6 feet isn't wearing a mask then germs are going to be exchanged. Don't even get me started with a crowded bar with wall to wall people none of whom are wearing masks.
I don't care if other people wear masks or not. I don't want to wear a mask. Please let me be a fool, let me infect myself with all the bacteria and germs of others. Like we all did, before March 2020.

But before March 2020 we didn't have COVID.......that's why since March 2020 we are all doing things differently....... to save lives.

The main purpose of masks isn't to protect you from others, it's to protect everyone else from you. I have no problem with those who don't want to wear masks, just don't come anywhere near me or the people I care for.

I think you transposed the words. It should be: “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety”
But your sentiment is well taken.

Seatbelts are required by law in most if not all states in the USA. For safety. Hard hats are required in construction and many work zones. For safety. There are probable thousands of safety measures in the world to protect humans from injury. For safety. You are not giving up any freedoms or liberty to be safe and keep others safe. That is ridiculous.

Look if you don't care about yourself that is fine. But by not wearing a mask you could very well be harming others. So if you choose to not wear a mask stay away from ALL people except those that don't care about themselves or you. Simple enough.

Actually, all those things you do give up some freedom. You give up the freedom of riding in the car as you please. Wearing whatever hat you want. Those might not be important freedoms to you, but to some it might be. Why do we have the 4th amendment. We’d be much safer if the police could just come in and search as they please.

Or you could look at it this way. If you don’t like people who don’t wear mask, then you should be the one isolating yourself. Amazon, Walmart and Uber eats make it so you’d never have to leave your house. Plain and simple.

Well I'll give this example and then I will exit this thread. You are crossing a street I am approaching. Now I could be worried about your safety so I slow down and let you cross. Or I could not give a damn about your safety and run you over. Why should I lose my freedom to drive however I please just so you can safely cross the street? Same thing as people not wearing a mask during a global pandemic. Sure I could be arrested and charged with murder if I kill you in that example but for some reason you anti-maskers think if you give me Covid and kill me it is fine because it is your right to not have to wear a mask.

There's this underlying assumption that wearing a mask is not harmful to the wearer. I find this to be a false statement -- unless the wearer discards the masks immediately after using it and/or every 30mins.

If the mask is designed to catch contaminates ("germs, viruses, bacteria, etc") - then keeping those contaminates in close proximity to your breathing apparatus makes it more likely that the force of your breathing will pull the contaminates into your body. If the mask is not designed to catch these things then wearing the mask is useless.

UNLESS the argument is that masks neutralize the germs/viruses and makes them harmless OR if we can prove that masks don't release germs/viruses once they have been captured.

So, people are asking individuals to sacrifice their personal health for the health of strangers by voluntarily wearing a cloth theoretically filled with captured germs/viruses for extended periods of time. Which should make it squarely back into the "personal freedom category."

I'M JUST GLAD THAT COVID-19 WENT AWAY LAST APRIL, JUST LIKE TRUMP SAID IT WOULD.
Amazing how less than a week after Biden’s inauguration places are lifting stay at home orders and that we can now “see the light at the end of the tunnel”. Couldn’t see it Jan. 19th but could Jan. 21st 🤷🏾‍♂️

"places" as in one place, California?

"places" as in one place, California?
Illinois as well. Wanting schools open, inside dining is now ok. Believe NY is going on about opening schools as well. Michigan as well. But yes, Cali being the main one. 2 weeks ago they thought it was unsafe to do much more than leave the house. 1 week later everything's all peachy.

Also, explain this one to me. Countries such as Italy and Spain had 95% compliance with mask wearing outside a persons home. Both of those countries were the first to re-enter lockdowns. Italy is ahead of us in deaths per capita and Spain isn't far behind. Florida without a statewide mask mandate is 30th in cases and 26th in deaths of all US states. Its almost like mask dont mean anything...

wonder how many people you may have infected with your careless behaviour, selfish bleeder
Probably the exact same amount as if I did wear a mask everywhere. But I have infected 0 since I have never had Covid and no one around me has had it. And to tell you exactly how selfish I am, we had a full family get together for Thanksgiving AND Christmas. The horror, right. I know I know, Shame on me.
