Dolev 800

Hello everyone,
I work for a company that uses a Dolev 800. We recently moved it. Since then, we’ve been experiencing a flashing issue: the files come out distorted and full of streaks (see photo 1). We don’t understand why.

Additionally, the rotor is overheating (photo 2). It doesn’t seem to be functioning properly. This could be the cause of the distortion and streaks on the films.

We can’t find any documentation, let alone a technician. Does anyone have a solution? Thank you for your help.
Dominique

Such distorted images are usually caused by film not being held flat by vacuum during the actual exposure.
Try exposing a sheet of film while the covers are open and watch the carriage run.
Watch if all movements are smooth with no obstruction or interferences.

Hello,

Thanks, I’ll try that and see… but the fact that the engine is overheating—what could be causing that?

Hello,
I live in the United States. I started with Scitex and the Dolev. Now I mainly work on platesetters (Magnus, Trendsetters…).
Still having issues with the Dolev?
The easiest way to communicate is via WhatsApp.

It’s become difficult to find someone in France to service this machine.
No, it still isn’t working.
I don’t know how to operate it at all.

The motor over-heating probably indicates it is working too hard pushing the carriage.
Perhaps there is an obstacle on the track?
Or, the track may need cleaning and lubrication (with thin Silicone Oil).
It may also indicate that the motor is at the end of its' life, but I think it is unlikely.
Did you verify that the vacuum is holding the film flat during exposure?

We turn on the Dolev… let it go through its cycle. Once it finishes the different steps and displays “Ready,” that’s when the motor starts heating up and becomes extremely hot—even though it has no files to process and isn’t even working. We had the motor checked, and we were told it’s not defective at all… :-(

You should run the Diagnostics program to try to isolate the probable cause.
I can upload/send the program if you don't have it.

First, try to reach the diagnostics program menu from your Dolev Control Panel.
You want to test the Mechanics
BTW, what model is your Dolev - is it 800P, 800V or 800v2?
Different Micro versions need different Diagnostics program versions.

Before making this diagnosis, I have a question: our Dolev is the 800V model. The movers who disassembled it didn’t take enough photos to help with reassembly afterward.
Is there an internal air compressor, particularly for pressing the film? Because we have an external compressor that was placed next to it and removed during the move, but we don’t know what it was used for.
Does anyone have a schematic or diagram of the installation for this type of machine?
Thank you for your response.

I believe you still have the internal Vacuum Pump inside your Dolev 800V.
It makes an audible sound once a film is loaded and it stops working when film is unloaded from the drum.
You will be able to see it if you open the lower back cover.
If you have a stand alone compressor belonging to the Dolev it was connected and used only for the internal pneumatic punching units.
The punch units are located on the Right Hand Side of the drum and if they are not in the "out" position they may interfere with film and create problems such as the distorted image you had.
I shall email you some drawings later today.

Yes, that’s what I thought. We don’t use the punching function. Thank you for your reply.
What’s concerning is the motor we just turned back on—it becomes burning hot after just 5 minutes. And it emits a slight high-pitched noise.
Unfortunately, I don’t have the disk to run a diagnostic :(

Later today I shall check if I have the Diagnostics version for the 800v.
Concerning the Lead Screw motor that is heating up, do you have a spare motor and a spare Driver Board for troubleshooting?
In case you need any part, I have plenty of used Dolev 800 parts I kept from my older Dolevs.

Can you come and fix it for us??? :) Just kidding…
We do actually have a spare motor, which we swapped in, but the same thing happens with both.
However, the control board—I’m not sure about that.
Used parts are definitely of interest to us.
Thank you very much for your offer.

I found the Diagnostics program you need, namely version 1.04A on an old 3.5" floppy.
I shall email it, together with some info files etc.
Concerning the motor Driver Board - you can find it at the upper section of the Electronics Crate that is located at the lower Right Hand Side of the Dolev.
