Old skool printer - ICC profiles

Depends on how you have Illustrator set up. If it is set to be safe CMYK (preserve numbers) then no ICC profiles are used, except those involved in print dialogue. If honour all profiles is your option all profiles are used.FOGRA39 may be used where there is transparency.

CMYK prints the same on every printer!!!

I would not expect them to print the same in two different printers. If it was 0/95/90/0 in Fogra39 simulated on different printers then you would be able to assume results to be similar, but even "100% Cyan" does not look (should not look) the same on different media.

What do you think of this?

Ouch, remember you said about that one, wasn't able to reproduce that bug :(

CMYK prints the same on every printer!!!

Neither Pantone nor CMYK is complete without the output intent. The problem is an educational one, and this is one reason I moved from production to education. But (many) design schools (possibly due to design teachers) don't want to be limited to the real world, and so young designers learn...

What do you think of this?

Would like to know what bugs those are, and to have several users confirm the bug raises the priority to get it fixed. There is the official bug/feature forms, and I have found Adobe responding to/fixing reported bugs. That Esko lags behind is harder to address. I know Astute graphics are quite...

InDesign CS3 - elements shift positions when removing pages

It has to do with right and left pages. You can uncheck from the page panel fly-out "Allow pages to shuffle". Alternatively you need to lock down the left and right pages by creating a section at page one, and NOT have automatic numbering. Left pages are even right pages are odd, and even a...

    Creative Cloud thoughts

All CC subscribers will have access to CS6. If you are "just" outputting then it is tough with a CC account as well… there is the option to ask for print ready PDF's but we all know that customers are not becoming better at making files for print with all distractions of digital-, cross- and...

Ink desities on press are very low. WHY?

:) Ok. In the end it's about trust between departments.

Ink desities on press are very low. WHY?

With the problems you describe are you really ready for FM? If I were you I'd spend some time on Gordons blogg (The Print Guide) As Gordon implied you misunderstand me. When I say don't show the proof, I mean that if the printer JUST goes by the numbers he will sometimes get where he should...

What do you think of this?

There was also no mention of print under "publish" in the keynote slides :,(

Ink desities on press are very low. WHY?

Best thing is if the pressman doesn't see the proof ;) They should be able to print by numbers. Matching wet ink to proofs isn't a good idea, I know customers that have been shown the same sheet 15 minutes of just waiting and approved the match to the proof just by waiting for the ink to dry...

Color Accurate Web Based Soft Proofing - Good Idea or Bad?

Don't forget that some monitors also have big variation in colour depending on view angle, even if calibration and characterisation is perfect.

Ink desities on press are very low. WHY?

Thanks Gordon, I sometimes fall into talking about dot gain when I mean TVI.

Ink desities on press are very low. WHY?

Prepress cannot in any way affect the solid primaries and secondaries. Dot gain can needs to be established as a jonint agreement between prepress and press since it depends on press conditions and plate curves. To some extent prepress can help manouvre fluctuations in press conditions (such...

    Font issues.

If working in prepress you need to blow out the fonts every now and again. You can have a suitcase with a mix match font set that gets in the way of installing families. The most common fonts are usually problematic because there are many cuts floating around. Helvetica Neue is one of those that...

InDesign CS5.5 Export Print PDF font problem

Long time ago there was similar issues caused by cache cleanup removing "unused" fonts… and then the fonts were not as "unused" as they seemed, the system doesn't clean up the Adobe font list so the Adobe software thinks that the fonts are still cached. Been a long time since I had the...

    Illustrator CS6 Dialogs Get Skipped?

Sad that it seems to be such a trouble. Have you tried re-installing? Uninstalling, emptying trash restarting, check permissions then do a re-install? I have not had any issues or heard of this kind of issues.

    Color management issue?

I'd visit gwg to get the configuration recommendations for your workflow.

    Convert To Destination (Preserve Numbers)

I'd really recommend VIGC Output Essentials it helps you walk trough the PDF creation flow. It is allways best to make sure you have document and output profiles as the same. AND enable warnings for colour miss-matches… CMYK can I prefer to handle preserving numbers in most cases (except when...

    InDesign or Illustrator

Shouldn't rendering for images and vector be identical since the concept of transparency was introduced? There is no reason to handle images and vectors differently. We don't know when they are matched.
