    Pantone Book vs Pantone+ Book

I have know for years that the reason Pantone would rather not list LAB values is that the pigments that make up a color do change slightly from year to year. 1 part of this base ink mixed to 2 parts of this base ink is always a good formula regardless of whether or not the base inks shift in...

    Pantone Book vs Pantone+ Book

With the front end to our digital press I have the Pantone Book and Pantone+ Book in digital form. I noticed that the same color in each book has a different Lab value. Here is an example of 3 such colors with their Lab values. The first set of Lab values is from the Pantone+ Book and the...

    CMY Profiles

Greetings Stephen, First, we do the full color calibration once a month using the manufacturer's recommended procedure. Second, we do a calibration each time we change a stock. Third, we only print the books after the full calibration and "wearoutable / consumable" components are replaced in...

    CMY Profiles

Greetings, Certain digital presses have front end software that offers the option of converting PMS colors to CMY only. For many PMS colors this conversion is a good match, for others it is not. While printing with only 3 colors speeds up the press it also, when using the software's workflow...

    CMY Profiles

Greetings, I am interested in making a CMY profile. In either iProfiler or MeasureTool I see not way to limit my target / chart to only CMY. I have the measurement data that I used to make a CMYK profile. I noticed in iProfiler if I use that same measurement data and set the Maximum black...

    Kodak Nex 2100 press

We have the opportunity to purchase a 2005 Nex 2100 press and know very little about it. Anyone care to comment on this press. Is it still supported by Kodak? Are consumables priced fairly? Is a press this old still of value? And any other feedback. Thanks.

    Calculating Distortion - HELP

    Years ago, 1981, I was taught this simple distortion formula for 1/8 pitch presses: repeat - .39 = X X divided by repeat = Y Y x 100 = distortion factor 10.5 - .39 = 10.11 10.11 / 10.5 = .962857 .9628 x 100 = 96.2857 I have been using this formula for, WOW, 30 years without any problems.

    Urgent Illustrator Problem

You can also select the type box in Illustrator, flatten transparency, and the extra A disappears. Or if you delete the return so Avoid is on the same line as WARNINGS, the A disappears. The interesting thing is if you smear the entire WARNINGS line with the text tool you can see in the...

Question about converting CMYK to spot color

I have had some success using the method I describe in the attached PDF file. I created this before Pantone Plus library was out, so use PANTONE + ... instead of PANTONE solid coated. Settings when selected in Color Settings might also be different if you know what the printer is using, eg it...

iProfiler Profiles and ORIS Tuner 5.5

Johu, thank you. After reading your post, I searched Print Plant for Oris CMM and discovered that apparently ORIS recommends during install training to use the Adobe CMM. I do not remember any mention of CMM's when our Tuner was install many years ago and was not aware that I could change the...

iProfiler Profiles and ORIS Tuner 5.5

I know that Tuner 5.5 is a no longer supported product, but has anyone been able to use iProfiler profiles with color match in Tuner. I have tried different profile settings, with no success. Tuner crashes during write back portion after first dat table iteration (before printing first iteration...

    iProfiler Profile Settings

Anyone done any testing to see if the difference between (8bit) small, medium and large profiles makes a difference in profiles for printing (litho, flexo, digital etc). I see the volumes are about the same, but the grid points are different and the file sizes are significantly different, small...

    Proofing Shrink Film

(disclaimer, I work for a Kodak, CGS and Roland DG dealer. We also sell Epson's including WT7900, I am not sure if one can compare the results in an Apples to Apples way). Stephen Marsh Thanks Stephen. We placed a CGS driven 7900 in one of our locations when it come on the market. At that...

    Suggestions for plotter negatives?

Regarding your bar growth, we also have that, to much less degree, using imagesetter film. Bar width reduction (BWR) is a common procedure to compensate for growth between original file, plate and press. If the bar growth is repeatable, then testing for the proper BWR is the step to take.

    Suggestions for plotter negatives?

Have you tried the support link / find a dealer link on: FilmMaker CDlink appears to be the company that makes and sells FilmMaker.

    Curve creation with iSis

Curve creation with iSis In ColorPort I made targets for the iSis from both of the attached files and was able to read both of the printed targets with the iSis. I saved them as ProfileMaker CGATS files and was able to use them in Curve 3. Other file choices may also work, but I did not try them.

    Still using manual trapping?

Stephen - we do use the PDF Trap Editor plug in. Prinergy has certainly made our production jobs process faster with its trapping and imposition solution in comparison to "hand trapping". Like everything, this faster processing comes at a cost. I still feel comparing Prinergy to Esko trapping...
