    Hp 10000

Doesn't HP still require certification through them to run the Indigo line? I know when we had a pair of 5000s nobody was supposed to operate them without that paper hanging on the wall. Maybe the employer should have you trained on the press? Just curious, that's a beast of a machine to have to...

Good Inkjet Printer for Short Run Envelopes

We've been using a Xante Ilumina for about a year now. It's passable for short runs, although we've done up to 2000. Heavy coverage can be an issue, it's just a laser printer after all, not an inkjet. They've added "real" Pantone support recently and it has its own variable engine built in too...

HP Indigo provider with good RGB Workflow / East Coast

Try District Photo in Beltsville, MD perhaps. They are a very large Indigo shop, and specialize in photo books. Not sure if they deal directly with the public however. Another shop is Indigo Ink out of Columbia, MD. They're on the other end of the spectrum, very small but extremely...

Do you charge clients for preepress re-design?

Au contraire mon frere, I understand every single word - and I feel old.

    U.S. oddness

YOu find it "odd that huge multinational companies" don't care about the little guy or making things convenient? I'd expect nothing else from them! :p

    Advancement

I seriously doubt I'd kill anybody to get back into this business. Getting out however. . . :P

    Creative Cloud thoughts

So, an InDesign doc that's CS6 but is generated from the CC version will have the identifier of CS7? Could always have them save back the .idml version, but that's a whole other dangerous game.

    Creative Cloud thoughts

Huh, maybe we've dodged the bullet then! Scary to think there are 2 types of CS6 files running around & no way to tell which is which.

Feedback needed - InDesign CS6 to .idml for ID CS5.5 work

I'd be very interested to know where that upgrade path is on the Adobe site! We have 3 workstations and can't justify the $600+ to upgrade the last one that's stuck on 5.5 since it was a standalone install and needs its own upgrade serial.

    Creative Cloud thoughts

You shouldn't, CS6 is still the current version even with a Cloud subscription. When Ver7 drops however. . .

    Management Zen

Yeah, I give that about 2-3 months be fore they realize how how horrible those apps have become. Only time will tell, of course.

Bad email habits you need to break

These rules don't apply to sales people right? Because most of the emails I've been subjected to from that side are damn near incomprehensible and many look like they're written by a Kindergarten child. It's embarrassing to imagine what clients think of a company based on those emails.

Printing defect: mosaic/tiny little boxes instead of blue sky

Yeah, looks pretty horrible here too, on even a barely calibrated monitor. That image is pixellated like crazy! It's been compressed at some point, unless you want to get creative with the Brush in Photoshop, it's not going to get any better.

    good monitor for color work?

I'd certainly hope that hardware has improved in - 5 1/2 years!! :p

    How slow is business?

That depends greatly on the sales force. I had one of ours tell me not too long ago that he was "Happy with his number of clients and not actively seeking any more" because, it seemed to me, he just didn't want to work any harder. Don't most of them work on commission? Maybe he's got a rich...

Toner "Spray" on a Xanté Ilumina

Dropped a new magenta drum in - running like a champ! Kind of troubling, since the drum that was in there had like 52% life left on it, hope this isn't a common occurrence.

Toner "Spray" on a Xanté Ilumina

I know the Xanté Ilumina envelope "Press" is really just an Oki copier, but I've been getting this magenta "spray" or toning along one side of any sized env I put through it the last few days. I've cleaned off the LED bars and wiped down the imaging drum rollers and any other parts I could...

Xante Ilumina Pulling toner from image

If it were me, and I could do an end-around the sales bozos, I'd let the client know that the machine just has limitations & either ask them to adjust the logo, or see if it's permissible for you to do it & show them a proof before running the whole job. I know, that sounds a lot like common...
