Synthetic paper for Epson 9880 (or Canon iPF 8400s)?

Bossman wants to try printing on a synthetic stock on our Epson 9880 or Canon iPF8400s. I have personally never used other stocks than coated paper on these devices, as we are using them primarily for color managed pre-press proofing only. My question to those with experience... A. Is this...

Prep 5.1 won't recognize new custom eps marks

I would try to save the mark as an earlier version (say 3,5,or 8) - see if that works for you? PDF marks are needed if you are using JDF workflow in rampage.

    cutting down large posters?

I was just giving a cheap, low tech option....but this is from a person who works for a company that had some design-interns make a 4x8 conference table with 2 aluminum sawhorses and a single sheet of painted sheetrock/drywall.....(that collapsed in such a glorious fashion when the boss tossed...

    FTP Alternatives??????

+1 on rumpus. It does support SSL. You would have to purchase an SSL certificate as mentioned above, or you can generate a self-signed certificate (this is secure, just doesn't give outside connections the 'trust' that a certificate authority issued one does). Rumpus makes the process 'easy'.

How many years do you hold onto customer print files?

We just archive everything (used to be tape, but the last 4 years on externals) Use about 2tb every 2years or so (rotating dual 2TB drives for redundancy). Side note/Heads up for IT/Geeks : This year I bought 2 - 4TB drives to add on to our 2TB library. Using a USB Drive Toaster for...

    Ricoh C901; PTR Shock

Have not seen this. Only time I had an issue was with a 100# Cover Satin stock, where toner was not covering properly about .0625" from the short edge of a 12x18 sheet...tech made some adjustments for that particular stock and resolved the issue. We have run 14 - 16 pt, or 130# cover without...

merge 2 pdfs to single page pdf?

Acrobat Pro (9.1 here) - Open PDF1 View Menu > Navigation Panel > Layers Select the "Import as Layer" option. (from the gear icon in this version of acrobat) Choose PDF2 as the source. This allows you to combine/layer pages on top (or below) each other....and adjust opacity if needed. I think...

    Booklets Won't Lay Flat

If you have a hydraulic cutter, maybe try putting a stack of books in and use the clamp to compress the fold 'a little'.

    Compression Marks

That's a classic Garbage In- Garbage Out scenario. Without having the original image to compare, you are making an assumption that it is an artifact of a maximum jpeg compression (probably correct) - however, it maybe the quality of the original image capture as well. Simple fix - get...

Gave An Employee A Raise , He Turned It Down ...WTF

So, you have a probationary employee that wants to dictate how much his pay will be...and when? If the terms of his employment was to reach $20 after a year...then incremental(and reviewed) steps during that year show that things are moving in the proper direction, yes? I have not had a...

Digital Scum or Blast or some other term?

IT is an AI file, saved as PDF. The Text is outlines/vector data. Everything is crisp on displays (zoomed in). ALso, tested, Have saved as uncompressed 1200 dpi TIFF as well, TIFF views fine in PS. Fiery processes it and has same result. I am convinced that this is a printer/mechanical artifact...

Digital Scum or Blast or some other term?

My cal sheet is output/measured from the Fiery (output each day) shows the dot structure without this toner 'blast'...alas, the dots on the cal sheet are screens of each individual toners...no traps/overprints to look at, my cal sheet is on the same stock I am using for the job - 80# gloss text.

Digital Scum or Blast or some other term?

whole page. this type/color combo is showing it the most. looks much better on an uncoated sheet, so it might also be a paper setting to alter for image or transfer current. job was completed, so now I will throw this into my R&D file to see if I can fix it for 'future' possible issues..

Digital Scum or Blast or some other term?

Thanks. We already had the black developer changed, and calibrations are good. Will ask about the drum to see if that would 'help' the issue.

Digital Scum or Blast or some other term?

Attached is a pic of colorized 8.5 pt text (CMYK =15/100/90/50) Noticing the scum or blast pattern of dots around this text. Black is the main culprit. (we have been on a Ricoh C901 for 4-5mos now, and have not really looked for/noticed this (but it seems that this color break really maximizes...
