Artpro has a warp/shrinkfilm plugin to do just what you want (not cheap, but what is from Esko). Short of that plugin you would need to warp manually.

make sure document raster effects settings are at 300dpi and not 72dpi.

Dont know of any way to do this. What I normally do for large format (billboards, banners etc.) is just make your document the bleed size and add trim mark/dieline manually. If a plugin exists to do this within AI I would love to hear about it also.

Thanks Bean66, So it sounds like you are treating them as one large file also. It is not so much the stepping that is the issue as the size of the items referenced on job tickets and such.

I cannot recreate the issue. I am in CS6 and no matter what shape I trap (compound, non compound, text) it always traps correctly. Maybe try adding an overprinting stroke instead of trapping. Sorry could not be more help.
