TOYO Ink , Sales and Service question?

We have in-house Toyo ink. Sales and service is good and this is considered a higher end ink than competitors.

    Scented Coatings

Hi All, I'm on the hunt for something very special for a project I have - I need a coating (either UV or water-based) that smells like leather yet has a soft feel. I've seen something like this before so I know it's out there, it's just proving very difficult for me to find. I would be...

    Cutting wavy coating jobs

Depending on the run size and the thickness of the substrate, it is sometimes a good idea to hit both sides with the lo curl. Even if you were to cut the finished product on the marks it will curl up afterwards which can be pretty ugly - coating both sides can mitigate that.

Are you certain you're using plastic inks? If not, that is your problem.

    Material Testing Best Practices

The proper way is to do a drawdown of the ink on the actual substrate. Typically, different inks are used on plastics vs papers. If you are still having difficulty getting adhesion you can try putting down a UV coating over the top of it to give it an added layer of protection. We recently...

    Spot UV (aka Varnish, Gloss)

If you read you will see that he says his school has the equipment for silk screening. All he'd have to do is buy enough UV coating to do the job, probably less than 20 bucks worth.

    Spot UV (aka Varnish, Gloss)

Spot gloss varnish is not what you're looking for. Chances are you won't get the contrast that you're trying to achieve. What I'd recommend you do is use a gloss UV coating and silk screen it. You'll have a very high gloss level. Call some print shops that have UV capabilities and see if...

looking for Soft touch UV coating

There are hardeners that you can throw into the aqueous soft-touch coating to make it very resistant against scuffing. It really does work wonders.

Might be the blades that you're using on your chamber. It might also have to do with the BCM of the anilox roller itself.

looking for Soft touch UV coating

There is a UV soft-touch out there that works great. I have run it without the streaking issues that usually occur. The coating is made by Cork Industries. If you order 5 gallons you will get two buckets with 2.5 gallons in each. You mix the two together really well and you're good to go.

    Favorite Paper (Brands)

Hi Nick, Start requesting some swatch books from the different paper companies out there. It's the best way to get an idea of the look, feel, and surface of the stock before you purchase. This also helps you show your customers what the stock looks like as well, which can prove very helpful.

    Who orders your paper stock?

We have someone on staff who does pre-planning and paper buying. We order our stock based on how long it takes to arrive. We will usually try and get the stock in a couple days early, but sometimes mill items can be a little tougher. We have a very good relationship with Unisource and they're...

Printing Crappy 24pt paper, Sceens not printing smooth

You can try sizing the sheet (hitting it with a pass of varnish). This will help fill in the pores of the sheet and provide you with a smoother surface. May screw up your timeline, however.

    Pressroom Hours

We're a commercial printer in the midwest and it seems like we don't have enough hours in the day to complete our work. We're working every weekend and have 3 shifts.

    Soft Touch (feel) Aqueous Coating

We mostly use aqueous for all of our soft-touch needs, and we do a pretty good amount of it. However, we have used a UV soft-touch from Cork Industries that works really well. When you order it you receive two separate pails filled half-way. You mix the two together and then pump it up into...

Heavy coverage side first or second ???

Heavy coverage second. Reason being that any scratching or streaks are much more likely to occur when the heavy coverage side is faced downward.

Where can I find a Job Description for a Sheetfed Second Pressman?

I used to be the in between guy. The two presses I worked on each had a feeder, but when those guys both went on their half hour break at the same time I'd be running the feeder on two 64" presses. In addition, these were 8 color presses so I'd be doing the inks on 16 units and handling the AQ...

    One side lamination

One key piece of information you are leaving out is where you do business. It wouldn't make much sense to ship something halfway across the country/world only to find out it can be bought down the street. Also, Google is your best friend.

    One side lamination

In my opinion, I really don't think that you're in any position to be selling anything to anyone at this point in time. There is a very wide assortment of laminating films available on the market - everything from dry erase to metalized rainbow film. As a good salesman, your job would be to...

    Looking for opaque acetate

On a side note, you should start acquiring a war chest of swatch books. My company has cabinets filled with them, and they come in very handy.
