    Canon C9075

I run a 6075 and would not recommend. I am told the 9075 is a different beast but check the consistency of registration on the paper. My 7065 wavers .1 inch over the course of a long print. That said, the color is great and it's relatively troublefree.

    Viagra Commercial Speedmaster...

Obviously the advertiser hit the mark with at least one group-- look at all the posts generated! You paid attention and remembered the ad :) Do you suppose that was part of the plan?

    Choking attached Fiery...

I've had the same thing happen with our Canon 1135 connected with a J100 to Micropress when running variable data large files. The only cure is to cold reboot the J100 and yes I have been told repeatedly that the J100 is just a pass-through and shouldn't be causing a problem. We traded out a...

Printing postcards for direct mail promotion

Not knowing those specific machines, be aware that just because they *say* they can handle the paper, doesn't mean they can do it efficiently. If that weight only works through the bypass tray and the bypass tray only holds 100 sheets, you could be babysitting it all day. If you are definitely...

    Network Administrator

Need to add an additional panel :D But my phone number, address, wife's name, and personal email (usually) doesn't change every 90 days to something I've not repeated the last 24 times!

    best VDP solution?

Xerox doesn't have something built in? We used to use Free Flow / Background forms for the non-variable and Indesign just for the variable. Worked well, but then Xerox priced themselves out of a contract.

New In-Plant Manager Looking for Excel Quote Sheet

This is not what you asked for but I am an inplant operator and we purchased "edu Business Solutions" "Print Shop Pro" 2 years ago and this has literally saved my sanity. Price was reasonable and it has everything you need to track and complete orders. Customers can even do their own estimates...

Did anyone ask for your input?

In my case when our lease was out, I did the research, the comparisons, talked to the sales reps and the techs, made my recommendations with the reasons, then was overruled by the Educator who concocted the analysis graphs to fit what he thought the higher-ups wanted to hear. I reserved and used...

    Publisher to PDF?

Also keep in mind that if you are using Office 2010, you will need Acrobat 10 . Gotta love the Microsoft/Adobe feud. Publisher has come a long way from the 2000 version. 2000 was cruel and inhuman punishment to use. 2003 was a vast improvement. I don't see too much improvment in 2007 or 2010...

    Publisher to PDF?

You may want to print out the color pallet of the Publisher file and match it to printed samples of your printer. IMHO, most people using Publisher are not that fussy about their colors and simply use what Publisher offers them because they don't know any better. Also beware that depending upon...

    Still Funny :)

Wife 2.0 doesn't allow that installation because it is actually an upgrade of SWSS1.0 after SWSS was bought out by investor and name changed. Wife 2.0 does not consider that prohibition a bug.

NCR Printing using offset printing machines

We are an educational agency with a small inplant. After decades of using an ABDick 980 for our NCR, we eliminated offset entirely when we found a source for digital NCR that was cheaper than what we were paying for regular NCR. The numbers just didn't justify keeping it even though we owned it...

    Mythbusting! (A bit of fun)

I have had 2 cases in the past month where school logo jpegs have degraded over 4-5 years from resaves. It was gradual so they never noticed in the office. I see it only yearly when they send me a file so the fuzziness jumps out. In both cases, I dug up the oldest jpeg I could find and resaved...

Expert Opinion Needed on New Printer for Neophyte

If your machine doesn't do bleeds, have your designer design around it. Simple solution. Edge trim from creep is something else. Get the edge trimmer on any bookletmaker attachment you find. Folders on office-level machines are worthless. They only hold 50 or so and only certain...

There just HAS to be an Acrobat plugin.....

What are you using to print? Both Xerox and Micropress have form features that have you place the pdf as the background and you can print just the fields in blank InDesign pages. 12000 pages with just the address/salutation would fly through the processors.

    Old Job Back Up

A few years ago I started *filing* my prepress files by month for our inplant customers. I get frequent requests for " Do you remember/have that file I did last year/3 years ago?" No, I don't recall it, but if you tell me approximately when we printed it, and what it might be called, I might...

    Hand scoring solution

I love the DocuCreaser for efficiently scoring up to 500 or so. The problem is that it takes table space in a tiny shop. Previously our graphics designer used a ruler and an exacto knife. When looking for small wheel items, try a fabric shop Tracing Wheel. Those wheels are less than an inch...

Can't help with total price, but we were just told that all finishers available are new, no used/refurbished available. Puts the price up quite a bit!
