Mac Pro os 10.5.2 using acro 8 to ps pdf files to a Harliquin rip 7.1r2, problem is the b/w photos rip as 4/c. The same pdf rips fine using acro 7. Pdf is 1.3, What setting am I missing here?

In the separation window is it device cmyk or is it Calibrated CMYK? (device Grey or cal grey)
You can dissable colour conversion in the advanced printer settings.

In advanced print I have the color profile set to "same as source(No color management). Which separation window looking at, for cal grey or device grey? When I check the preview window the b/w photos do not separate but when going to proof or film the photos are separated in all 4/c.

If you are set up as "same as source" AND you are saying that in Output Preview the objects are only on the black plate - then your printer is doing the bad deed, not Acrobat.

But acro 7 can ouput the same file right, just using tiger os instead of leopard os, same printer, same rip

So Acrobat 7 and Acrobat 8 print differently - ESPECIALLY on Tiger & Leopard. Apple made changes to their printing APIs that were adopted by Acrobat 8, but didn't exist in the Acrobat 7 timeframe...
