Anyone print coffee cups?

Hello all,

We've got a client that would like us to print coffee cups that he would die-cut and assemble. He will supply the stock, which is an uncoated Evergreen sheet that has been coated inside with some sort of corn starch coating. We're using a 40" Man Roland 606D with Zipset GP series ink, and Varn Optima fountain solution, (3% if I remember correctly).
We printed a test run using our normal setup and the cups look great. The problem was that the cups take ten to fifteen days to dry, and when they are filled with a hot liquid, the offgassing continues and the smell is unappetizing. We contacted an ink manufacturer prior to the run and were told that we didn't need to use food grade inks, and that our Zipset should be ok. We've contacted the paper manufacturer, but are getting the runaround. We've also got some "no voc" ink in and are going to try that soon. (we're crossing our fingers)

Is anyone printing on coffee cups? Can you tell what you're doing to make it work? What ink and fountain solution are you using, and do you coat the sheet after?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
Rob
