Back lit Canvas?

I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with back lighting Canvas.
I'm planning on stretching some canvas onto a frame and wondering if it's possible to back light it.

Or if there's a more flexible back lit film available.
I have tried some heavy weight canvas and the print looks washed out.
I'm thinking maybe using 2 pass when printing may help, but the rip we use doesn't support it.

So any suggestions or tips?

In addition to the colors washing out you're going to get a pretty strong hue shift from the canvas itself (it isn't very close to white on the back). I think it will be problematic but what you could maybe try is building a profile on the stretched and lit canvas. I think you need something more specialized than an i1 to build transmissive profiles - I have never done it so I'm not sure.
