Barcodes and Automation?

Hi all,

Just curious how you use barcodes in your workflow? I've recently become interested in how barcodes could be used to automate. Some examples I can think of might include:

1. Scanning a barcode to generate a shipping label with all information already populated.
2. Scanning a barcode to enter shop floor data (time spent on job, material charges, etc.).
3. Scanning a barcode to run a program?
