Black toner all over prints…is it bad developer?

Not come across this before but printed a load of 350gsm card today with a white background and noticed a grey hue on the white areas. When I looked closer it’s like black specks of toner all over the sheet.

Is this likely to be bad developer or is there somewhere I can clean to clear this up?

Machine is a Xerox Versant 80.

Thanks in advance

It could also be a faulty toner. I've encountered this before here.
I’ve only noticed it today and the toner is half empty. Could still be possible, or possible that I’ve not spotted it before now (we do a lot of full coverage prints).

If you switch the black drum with another color, do the specks still show up as black or do they follow it to the other color?

I’ve seen this before with Xerox printers but only when a black drum actually gets used to 100% of its life. Happened maybe half a dozen times in the 4 years we had our versants.

Possible Causes and Quick Solutions:

• Paper Quality:

• Issue:Rough or damp paper can cause uneven toner adhesion.

• Solution:Use high-quality,dry paper.

• Toner Cartridge or Developer Unit:

• Issue:Insufficient toner,uneven distribution,or a leaking cartridge.

• Solution:Shake the toner cartridge or replace it.Clean the developer unit.

• Internal Machine Dirt:

• Issue:Dirty photosensitive drum or paper path.

• Solution:Clean the drum and paper path gently with a soft cloth.

• Printing Settings:

• Issue:Incorrect settings for thick paper.

• Solution:Ensure the printer is set to“thick paper mode”and adjust the resolution.

• Static Electricity:

• Issue:Static on thick paper can cause toner issues.

• Solution:pre-treat paper to reduce static.

Quick Cleaning Steps:

• Turn off the printer and unplug it.

• Open the maintenance panel and clean the photosensitive drum and paper path.

• Check and clean the developer unit.

• Test print after cleaning to see if the issue is resolved.

Start by cleaning the machine and checking the paper. If it persists, consider replacing the toner cartridge or contacting a technician.
