CS3.3

I am really confused. What (if any) do I need to upgrade from this new offering from Adobe?
I own CS3 Standard.
I want Acrobat 9 for the Mac.
Am I getting a "newer" INDD or Photoshop or whatever?
Adobe - Seriously, this is confusing.
I CANNOT go to the well in September and pay $300 - $400 and then have to go back
in the near future for CS4 or whatever you call it.
What am I missing?

Re: CS3.3

The upgrade from +CS3 Design Standard+ to +CS3.3 Design Standard+ only provides an upgrade to Acrobat 9 Pro. No other modules are changed. This specific upgrade (CS3 to CS3.3) is $159 in the United States. Presumably, the upgrade from CS3.3 to the next version of the same suite will be less expensive than an upgrade from CS3 to that next version.

Thanks Dov,
Now, one more question.
Does Acrobat 9 (Macintosh) give me the ability to "output" an APPE PDF (1.6) to a device without printing it?
I think you have discussed this in the past, but I just need to clarify before purchase.
(As we all know, Acrobat Professional 8 must go to .ps during print). I am trying to avoid that.

Yes - Acrobat 9 is APPE aware. When printing to such a device, the PDF will "pass through" to APPE, letting it handle all of the details.

Re: CS3.3

Actually, +natively+, Acrobat 9 (either Macintosh or Windows) cannot deal with printing directly to an +Adobe PDF Print Engine+ -equipped device via the +Print+ command without some additional software from the provider of that +Adobe PDF Print Engine+ -equipped device. I don't believe that any of our OEMs are shipping such software +yet+. Support for that software is built into Acrobat 9, though.

The JDF capability of Acrobat 9 does allow submission of PDF print jobs to PDF workflow systems and printers that do support JDF and JMF. Conceivably, some of the +Adobe PDF Print Engine+ based systems do support that.
