Dolev 800 film jam

I am having a problem with film jams on our Dolev 800, but only in the largest (32") size. If I run one piece of 32" film after another, it will feed and run fine. But if the imagesetter sits for while and I try to run a 32" piece, the film wraps around the roller and jams. Could this be a static issue, we have a stable, air conditioned environment? Or could it be residue on the upper roller that is causing the film to cling? Any idea on how to clean these rollers--do they need cleaned periodically?

I have also had the thought that something is causing the roller to step when it is idle or when we run a piece of 12" or 20" film it causes the 32" film to creep forward around the roller.

We are wasting a lot of film between imaging--any help?

Frish,

The air con just takes the humidity out of the room. You need also a Humidifier. Your problem can be caused by very low humidity in the room ( ideal and recommended originaly by Scitex was 55 +/- 5% RH) or your loading roller needs replacing. If you have the Dolev connected on line to a processor, the fumes from it damage the rollers after a time. Try and rub some baby talk into the rollers and see if this will help.

I tore into the machine this morning to try to clean and talc the rollers, but my teardown so far does not give me access to the Large upper feed roller which appears to need the most attention. I hesitate to tear into the spring loaded gate that mostly covers the upper feed rolls for fear that the tension mechanism will fall out. What is the key to getting decent access to the rollers to clean/condition them?

Hi Frish,

Take out the large cassette and you will see a BLACK panel held by many small cross head screws. Remove the screws and take the panel out. Now you will have access to the large roller. Maybe it has gone soft ( perished) if you have an on line processor connected to your Dolev.
