Epson acquires Fiery

Just as the title says...Epson is going through the process of acquiring Fiery and it's expected to be done in 2024. This must be why EFI separated from Fiery last year.

This seems like it could create some conflicts with all of the other printing equipment manufacturers who sell printers with Fiery controllers since Epson also makes printing equipment. This would be like Konica Minolta selling Xerox controllers with their presses. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Fiery also posted this and Epson posted this on LinkedIn in case you want to see how people are responding there.

Interesting move but doubt it will change anything. You don't buy a company and then shut out your clients.

Sure in the wide format market Epson have provided print heads to opposition for years.

Agreed
Epson will get
-usage data from fiery driven devices connected to the internet, which would be most of them
-Fiery's patents
-steady re-occuring revenue
-A more mature RIP

EFI seems like it's been in autopilot for a while. Still can't sort my Hot Folders by name! I suggested that to them at least 7 years ago!
