We had our waste ink pads changed not that long ago
but I am getting a message saying they need to be changed.
Can anyone tell me how to reset?
Thanks, Greg

You're talking about resetting the maintenance tank chip, correct?

Try this (at your own risk ;) ):

-turn off your printer
-press PAPER SOURCE+PAPER FEED+CUT/EJECT buttons at the same time and keep them pressed
-turn on the printer
-you can release the buttons
-A new hidden menu does appears
-press DOWN, CLEAR COUNTERS option should appear
-press RIGHT
-press UP, MAINT TANK should appear
-press RIGHT
-press ENTER (CUT/EJECT button)

Thanks for trying.
I kept getting error message (service req. 00000100)
When and if I get this figured out I will let you know.
Thanks, Greg

Those procedures were for the 7600/9600 printers. I assumed it would be the same for the 10600, but I've never used one...guess not. Good luck.

I have not done this myself, but this is from the 10600 service manual:
First however, this warning appears on the page that these instrux came from:
The following explanations regarding operating Panel service
functions are for service and support purposes only; do not share
this information with the user.

So, ummm use at your own risk.

FROM THE SERVICE MANUAL:
**It is recommended that the Paper Release Lever be released before
starting the Maintenance Mode 2. Doing this will prevent the
printer from entering initialization actions and allow operations to
be performed smoothly.

1. Enter Maintenance Mode 2:
The maintenance mode 2 display is selected by switching power ON while
pressing the Paper source, Cut/Eject, and Paper Feed ↓ buttons.

2. Navigate to CLEAR COUNTERS MENU with the item button:
The Setup items select mode is selected by pressing the Item button once. The first
Setup item on the Setup menu is displayed. The display is in the ’[Item]=[current
setup value]*’ format. The ’*’ represents the current setup value.
The Setup items are displayed in the ’[Item]=[current setup value]*’ format in turn
each time the Item button is pressed.

3. Once in the CLEAR COUNTERS MENU, reset ONLY these 2 values:
-INIT WAST INK
-INIT CLEANER

Exit out and restart the printer.

Here is what the service manual says for SERVICE REQ. 000100:

SERVICE REQ. 00000100: Waste ink tank full
􀂆 Problem
Waste ink tank overflow
􀂆 Explanation
Shows that waste ink pads has become full of waste ink and remaining capacity is
0%. Because ink will leak if printing is continued in this condition, the printer
finishes printing (currently printed page) and then stops operation.
􀂆 Solution
It is similar as "MAINTENANCE REQ. 0100".

Here is what it says for MAINTENANCE REQ. 0100:

MAINTENANCE REQ. 0100
􀂆 Problem
Indicates small quantity of remaining waste ink material absorption. Also indicates
pump cap unit is nearing life.
􀂆 Explanation
To ensure optimum printing quality, this printer discharges ink from printer
internal components by cleaning and flushing. Absorbent material is established to
retain the discharged ink. The quantity of discharged ink is updated by replacing
the counter value, and when remaining capacity reaches 4% of 100% absorption
capacity, this message is displayed to notify the user that it is necessary to replace
the absorbent material. In addition, life for the pump cap unit is proportional to
waste ink quantity, so timing is the same. Printing is possible while this message is
displayed, but when remaining quantity reaches 0% the message will change to a
Service Call and printing will be stopped.
􀂆 Solution
1. Replace waste ink pads. (Refer to 4.2.3.1 "Replacing the Waste Ink Unit")
2. Use Maintenance Mode 2 to reset the waste ink counter and cleaning unit
counter (for pump cap unit).
3. Replace the pump cap unit. (Refer to 4.2.3.13 "Removing the Pump Cap
Unit")
NOTE: The above parts are supplied with the parts package "Maintenance Kit
(Waste Ink Pads/Pump Cap Unit).

I tried to reset the counter again and this time it worked.
The only thing I did different was unplug the unit after clearing.
I am not sure why that would make a difference, but I don't
care. I am back up and running.
Thanks so much for all your help.

Waste ink Tanks for all epson injets

Waste ink Tanks for all epson injets

Every time your Epson printer performs a head clean, waste ink is channeled into a waste pad at the bottom of your printer. A counter records this and after so many head cleans, the printer firmware will “stop the printer from working”

· You will have to take your printer to a Epson service center to have the Waste ink pads replaced and the counter reset to zero. This will cost from $50 - $300. (depending on model) If you use your printer a lot, this will happen quicker than you would expect.

· However, help is at hand and you can avoid this expensive and time wasting exercise with this tank and “Model Specific Reset” Plus “FREE” utility program.

· This Space saving Cylindrical container is 100% "Made in America" Extruded from odorless and impact resistant PETG, With a flexible and transparent wall, they provide a protective and clear view of the waste ink. Fitted at both ends with black SC TuffPak Caps™. The caps have an airtight and waterproof seal protecting it's contents from leakage and contamination. Tank may be mounted horizontal or vertical

· Reuse the waste ink on a 1/3mix with fresh black ink, in your refillable cartridge or Bulk ink system. “No more wasted Ink” helps keep the system from clogging.

This Tank , will save you a lot of aggravation and money. Recycle the ink if you’re using

a “continuous ink supply” or filling your own cartridges.

can anyone tell me if it is possible (in any way) to change the Epson 10600 from Dye Ink to UltraChrome Ink. Epson says that the firmware configures the first time the ink is loaded and then you are married to that ink for life. Makes no sense! The must be a way to switch inks. Anyone know how?

changing inks

changing inks

Yes, but it basically is best to completely "clean" your printers heads, lines etc. . . .
a lot of inks do not interact with each other and will clot or congeal. and make a mess of your printer.
