Thanks

Were not we use low VOC chems but the smell is the trouble VOC in ca. cant be any higher then 100 I think it is. Some colleges here have hoods over there presses.

what kind of press do you have???? that would be a pretty big hood for a 40" 2+ color . .. . we were roller coating aqueous on a two color speedmaster and the smell was so bad we put a "whole house fan" in the wall at the delivery end and sucked the air outside with no hood and it seemed to work pretty well.

Valley Air (Bakersfield to well above Lodi in the California central valley) total VOC for offset newspaper press is less than 5% for all color and 5% for press wash with a Valley Air permit. We’ve been permitted going back to 1999.

All permitted print plants have a max of VOC each 24 hr period ours is 30 lbs each 24 hrs. We’re printing on newsprint so we get a 95% retention.

Haven’t noticed the smell but I’ve been in the pressroom for over 50 years. Most of the presses that print UV are required to have a hood over each UV couple or tower about $100,000.00 each tower. UV inks are 0% VOC. We’re not using UV inks yet so have no idea if there is a smell to the ink.
