Could you describe what you mean by "gradient breaks?"

Something like the top gradient (shade-stepping) or the bottom gradient (midtone bump) in this image? Or something else?

Hi Gordo,

We are experiencing Gradation breaks something like top gradient (shade-stepping) from dark to light shade. In light shade only this gradation problem occurs.

We had banding with agfa azura plates, come to find out the line screen we were using was higher than the plate could handle.

@Ponnapati....plz provide some more info on the issue...Is this happening on all of your presses or a particular press or a unit, fountain solution pH and conductivity. rollers and blankets condition and any particular substrate?
As Filejockey said, it can be a ctp issue.

We are experiencing this gradation issue on all presses. Whenever this gradation problem occurs we do color retouching in prepress, this will affect some times on other images also.

Again !!

Again !!

Hello fellow Lithographers,

AGAIN - we have lots of "interesting questions" for which answers from us are needed -

BUT many questions are "lost in translation" it seems a burden we must bear !

Are these files by chance "old" - like from 5 years ago or so? Gradients (particularly in Illustrator) were created differently and would produce such banding.
Check raster effects settings in the art file. If files were created years ago it would be beneficial to recreate the gradients.

This stepping in the gradient can often be found in the file. The gradients will do this if made in InDesign. They should be made actual size in Photoshop, then imported into InDesign - problem solved!
