Hello - the answer

InK Holdout - a property related to Ink Absorbency

# 1 Ink holdout is the tendency of printing paper to resist or retard the inward penetration of the freshly printed ink film.

# 2 Ink Absorbency.

This property determines the rate and amount of ink penetration into the paper after the press plate or blanket deposits it. Penetration is mainly that of the ink vehicle into the voids,
capillaries and pores of the paper.

From a printer's perspective, you can also say that a paper with higher hold out will give better ink mileage. It means that printed density will reach your target amount at a lower ink film thickness. The ink should/could exhibit more gloss as well.

Hold out as it relates to paper is a function of the type and amount of coating. Because it affects how much the ink penetrates into the sheet, it can also affect dry rate, and adhesion of the ink to the paper.
