Is the paper white Lab a must?

I just like the word "hooey"...I needed an excuse to use it.

LOL - I waited years - decades actually - to use the word "pitiful" after hearing it spoken by Bruce Dern in the 1966 movie "Wild Angels". Some things just stick in the brain like that.

So...

When are the ISO-guys going change the standard so that it matches with our reality? It would result in less confusion.

How hard can it be to change the b-value to -5 (or even better 96 1 -5)

Easy on the surface...but slooow going when dealing with an international standard.

As if any of this nonsense matters in reality. I think customers and printers alike get pressured into thinking they need to comply with all this standardization. Amazing how such solid standards change so often. It's all relative...do i care if my box of Cheerios from Shop Rite doesn't look exactly the same as the one from Walgreens? Do I ever see them next to each other? It's all a bunch of hooey.

I was of the same mindset at one time. A friend of mine who did catalog work for LL Bean put the idea into dollars and cents for me. At the time, LL Bean showed a 25% return rate on products sold. Of those items returned, 90% were returned for reasons relating to color. I hope I'm remembering the numbers correctly. And I hope no one from LL Bean will mind my using their name in the context of this conversation.
