KM 6501 vs Xerox 700

Hello -

I am about to purchase one of these two machines, but am looking for help in my decision. There are lots of threads on this subject, but I am hoping to hear from the people who ACTUALLY own / lease either the Xerox 700 or the KM 6501 respond?

(NO EMPLOYEES / REPS FROM EITHER COMPANY PLEASE)

Basically, I am wanting to learn about reliability, quality and service. If you own / lease one of them, are they workhorses, or do they generally break down? And when there is a problem, are the techs good and on time?

Thanks!
Joe

If you could tell us a little more about what you intend to use these machines for, and what features are the most important to you, that would probably help out.

Sorry about that. We are printing a lot of short runs, with a lot of different sized media, including 80# cover stock duplexed. We estimate ~200,000 clicks per year. Thanks!

200K clicks annually on either of these engines is light duty.

As for you question regarding service performance, that is a question you need to ask locally. Get local references and referrals from both companies. Better still, ask around locally who has these units. Service levels can vary widely from area to area and from dealers to direct sales offices.

Points to consider

Points to consider

Here's my top 10 list in making an equipment decision.
1> look at costs for lease, maintenance, and supplies for each machine. Make sure that both companies reduce the costs to a common format the you can clearly understand. This will include costs for overages, suppplies, B&W vs color, and different sheet sizes.
2> ALL new lease MUST include some kind of a fair cancellation clause that you can exercize unilaterally for whatever reason. This can be done very easily. Als, make sure you clearly understand who you lease is with. Chances are it will not be with the same exact company or division offering the machine.
3> Select 10 jobs that clearly demonstrate a cross section of the applications and materials which you will want to print on the machine. Ask for a live demo with you present and actually pushing the buttons and loading the files and materials into the machine. Hands on is a must for your evaluation.
4> Ask the equipment sales person to show you samples imaged on teir machine model of other applications which will allow you to expand your sales offering. Also find out how long he/she has been in this position and how many sales rep peers he has locally. These people change positions almost every year.
5> Xerox also has a Xerox Supplies organization. Ask to meet with the Xerox Supplies rep for your area and to review all of the specialty substrates that are qualified by Xerox for your exact machine. Substrates like ID cards, magnets, sybthetic papers, labels just to name a few. Not sure if KM has a supplies group to support their equipment. The Xerox Supplies rep may be able to show you enough new ideas to pay for the machine in increased sales revenue.
6> aske to visit three account that are using the machine that you are considering
7> ask to meet with your service rep and his manager to personally discuss your service level requirements. Find out how deep the service organization is and whether they are expanding or reducing staffing. Als find out level of training for your rep.
8>What is the profile of your intended customer base. Find out if the machine comapny is also selling similar equipment to your customer base. This can get a bit sticky if thety are also selling your clients while your are trying to build your revenues to support your new machine.
9> Ask what types of business development operator or sales training programs the equipment company is offering for FREE with your new machine
10>lastly, ask the machine company to document in writing the guarateed duty.maintenance coutns for the machine. If the PM cycle is 50,000 impressions then they should document it and explain what they are willing to do if your actual count is 35,000.

Some of these are 'business' comments, but it is not all about machines and service.

Xerox 700 quality, reliability and service

Xerox 700 quality, reliability and service

We have a 700 and couldn't be happier with quality, reliability and service. We are fortunate to have responsive and knowledgeable field engineers. On the rare occasion we run into a problem our district service manager responds quickly with solutions as well. Everyone has a great attitude when it comes to taking care of customers.:) No problems with supplies either!:D

The Xerox 700 is a great machine. We produce 250,000 impressions per month on it. It rarely goes down. Most of the wear and tear parts are customer replaceable. The only time service is needed if you need a cleaning blade or developer changed. Thank You, Printology in Ridgewood, NJ 07450.

Xerox 700 unreliable for us

Xerox 700 unreliable for us

After 6 months, X-700 performance AND Xerox cooperation to solve problems has left a lot to be desired. A lot of empty promises, and we turned the matter over to our attorneys. Truly wish anyone out there a lotta luck, and am happy for those not having issues. Hard to understand how Xerox stays in business when they bs customers when obvious issues emerge. I can't be more specific because of the legal status. We are considering joining a class action managed by a Florida firm that has had some real major wins when issues and complaints fall on deaf ears.:(

Hi,
Could you please give me the price on both equipment...if you have it please.

Joesmith- we looked at the same two machines last fall and went with the Oce' 665 Pro with a Fiery external rip.( same machine as KM6501) It was a difficult decision between the two, we did notice during testing that the registration on #80 cover was better on the Oce', the Xerox 700 front to back seemed to vary about 1/32" Another minor thing probably was the Xerox paused all the time to calibrate, which seemed to us to be productive time lost. So far we have done 300M clicks, most on 13x19. We have had minimal problems. The decision basically came down to price, Xerox was around 12% higher for what we considered to be equal to the Oce' but not better. Good luck & make sure you lock your price in for a couple of years & as noted in other posts get those performance guarantee's in writing.
