Konica Minolta - Auto Quality Adjustment

Does anyone use the Auto Quality Adjustment on their KM machine? What are the pros/cons?

I had a group from KM visit today and were really promoting this application. I have found that if people are promoting something so hard it isn't always in your benefit. It may be in their benefit, but not yours. So...I'm just looking for any feedback from users in the field. I'm not against using it, just want users to validate the worth and not the "salesman" hyping it up. We have a 12000.

Thanks.

Auto Quality Adjustment

AQA is an abbreviation for “Auto Quality Adjustment” and is one of our unique functions of the Intelligent Quality Optimisation Unit IQ-501/IQ-601. The IQ unit scans and measures the quality confirmation charts printed from the AccurioPress print engine and AQA automatically performs self-diagnosis, correction, and repair of the Image Quality, creating increased production time reducing print wastage and enables less skilled operation.

Do you have the IQ-501 and you're just concerned with trying out the AQA? Or are they trying to sell you the IQ-501? What are your concerns about trying it out?

We have the IQ-501 on our C6085 and C7090 and we never use the AQA. The KM's hold their quality quite well in general (though we have a lemon C7090 that has all sorts of problems, but that's another story) so we don't really feel the need to use the AQA. We mostly use the IQ to get the front/back alignment perfect before any run. We also have the system automatically run a full color adjustment every morning. This keeps the color consistent from day-to-day.

The AQA has a couple of modes you can use:
  1. It can check for consistent color density: It does this by placing color patches on the edges of your print outside the artwork area and checks every sheet.
  2. It can check for flawed prints: It does this by making a test print that you signal is a perfect print to judge all others by. Then, if prints come out with splotches, scratches, or voids, it will automatically eject them to another tray for you to decide if you want to keep them or not.
  3. It also has the option to check front/back alignment on every sheet, or periodically for whatever interval of sheets you select (but this is turned on from a different button in the controller than the AQA)
