The online profiling guide is less then helpful.
For the high cost of ProductionHouse, they should provide us with a real manual describing profiling in detail.
I would strongly suggest anyone considering purchasing any Onyx product think hard about it. They do not provide adequate support for users. No useful manuals and they make you pay for support on top of the purchase price.
I wouldn't have an objection to that if the RIP didn't have so many bugs and no useful documentation.
They have really let us all down. Btw, i was promised many time that a new Media Manager manual and training guide would be forthcoming. Obviously a lie.
Later a support person once admitted that they have no plans to provide the user base with a manual until version 8 or 9. He couldn't tell me why but a few months later, they started to charge for support. It all makes sense now.
Kick us while were down! The Onyx Graphics way!
I paid a lot for my RIP and i feel cheated. I have told them this and again, indifference.
I really wonder if i call in about new problem, which i have a lot of, will they charge me for the privilege of reporting it? I dont have the money to pay for a support contract but i assumed when i bought the rip it would be useable. The last stable version was in the 6 ish range. The v7's are buggy but useable.
A good example: One of the KEY features of Onyx for me is the Auto Rotate and Nesting.
The Auto Rotate will not work on my Epson 9880. It has something to do with the coding of resolutions. I have to manually rotate every file and basically do the work that the rip was supposed to do for me. Also rotating files in Pre Filght is a hit or miss. 1/4 of the time it doesn't work and it doesn't show the rotation in rip queue.
I reported this over a year ago and nothing in the build notes and the apps are still acting the same.
Also the Layout app is fantastic if it would work at all. I have never been able to print anything from it using the Epson 9880.
I reported this also and its still a mess. If it would work, i would be so happy.
