New server for Print Drive

Hello Folks,

Can Print Drive be installed on a new server?
If so, what sort of specs - looking to drive a 10 year old Galileo VS8 and push out double-sided lowres proofs to an old Sherpa2. This is some contingency planning on my part as the Dell box we have now in pushing 10 years old.

Thanks,
RG

If this is just for "in case of emergency break glass" then I'd consider a refurbished/used server. I picked up a Dell PowerEdge 2900 with 4 cores (3.2GHz I think), 4GB RAM, DLT drive and (2) 73GB 15k RPM hot swap drives for $350. It's a beast of a machine. But you have to ensure that it has a slot for your card that drives the output device. We got this one because it had one slot that was compatible.

Thanks for the reply Matt, I will take a look around to see what I can find... hope there is someone at AGFA that still remembers how to install the software.

Thanks,
RG

Server 2003. You could probably find drivers for 2000 on Dell's support site. If you need something of that vintage I would suggest a HP Proliant ML350/370. Or I can find you a steal on a DL580G2 with (4) 2.8GHz or 3.06GHz Xeon's and upwards of 16GB of RAM. Depending on what you need I have a number of sources available.

Yes, I just had to replace my PrintDrive server. As Matt said, you need a machine with a PCI/X bus for the APIS card. Windows 2003 is the latest OS that PrintDrive can run under. If your new server doesn't have a serial port, then you'll have to upgrade your PrintDrive dongle to a USB dongle..

Thanks rich apollo, I was just beginning to realize this as I have been opening up the old server.

Printer port I suppose... :)

Thanks Farshad, Yes I have begun digging for such a relic... how time flies.

Incidentally, it has wondering about our Odyssey box as well. With the touchscreen not working on the LP82, I use it exclusively to control both the galileo and the processor... what of that goes?

Christian, No worries!!! You can Run Androdiag (for controlling the Lp-82 Display), Unidiag and Remotediag from any computer with 2 serial ports. They aren't Odyssey(Hardware) dependent. You just have to install them on your New Server and connect all the cables included the serial cables to the New Server. Those Diagnostic softwares are on the CD. Agfa usually include them with your other softwares.

Take a good care of yourself!
